A 41-year-old Port Byron man was assaulted in the head Saturday morning over the affair he reportedly has had with his alleged assailant's wife, Auburn city police reported Monday.
Randy A. Jones, 43, of 30 Lansing St., Auburn, was charged with the felony of second-degree assault over the incident. Police said the victim had come to Jones' residence at Jones' request to discuss the affair.

Police were dispatched to Jones' residence at 1:43 a.m. with a report of an assault with a weapon.

Police found the Port Byron man with a head laceration. The man said he had been assaulted with a metal pipe. Police said that a pipe was not located, but said there was time for the weapon to have been disposed of prior to their arrival.

The victim was treated at Auburn Memorial Hospital, where he required 10 stitches to close his wound.

" How horrible -- bad enough to have something so awful happen to you, but then to have people who don't even know you chiming in to judge you on what they THINK happened. We don't know if there even ever was an affair and frankly, it is NONE OF OUR BUSINESS. Sitting here making nasty comments judging these people is unfair and ridiculous. We don't know their personal business, if there were an affair or not, any of the circumstances of the marriage, and none of that is our business. The news item is: one man assaulted another. It wasn't self-defense, it was a criminal attack on another human being. Period. "

" How do you know? How do you know it wasn't in his head? I've had a jealous boyfriend who thought there was something going on when it wasn't, over and over -- it drove me nuts. Almost made me want to, since he always thought I was anyway (if I was going to get raked over the coals for something that wasn't happening....) What business is it of ours anyway? And who are we to judge even IF it were true? No matter -- it doesn't give the guy a right to bash in another guy's head. What a neanderthal attitude.... "
