" You can't win a war like this -- you'd think we would have learned when we tried it before on a smaller scale in Vietnam. Yes, terrorism is horrible and wrong, but you can't stamp it out -- even if you could destroy al-Qaida, there'd be some other group to take its place. Instead, you need to take a good hard look at how The West has behaved towards less powerful countries and try to understand why they feel the way they do about us from their POV -- and that is only the first tiny baby step towards trying to figure out how to makew change. Personally, I think it is too late -- we are reaping what we sowed even while we deliver unto others for what they sowed -- the cycle is too far gone to turn back and there is no solution. We are Rome in the years of decline to barbarism, but sending our sons and daughters to be cannon fodder, to come home mained or mentally and emotionally damaged if they come home at all is not going to change anything for the better, it's a waste of good lives, a sacrifce for NOTHING, except maybe a chance for the handful of ultra-powerful super rich men in the world to get even richer and more powerful, for them to manipulate, control and destroy anyone who would stand between them and more power. And that is the only thing for which we are truly sacrificing our children -- and it's disgusting and immoral. IF the war really were about putting an end to terrorism, IF that were even possible, then, yes, it would be a justifiable evil -- but it is not. It is just plain evil, no mitigating factors at all.
