I read the “Two Cents Worth” comment on my recent letter to The Citizen, and just wanted to assure the writer that it wasn't my intent to “push off” anything on anyone.
It was simply my Christmas “journey” this season, offered for what it was worth.
I'd also like to assure the writer that I'm not “self-hating” nor “depressed.”
I'm honest with myself. I can see there's no way I measure up to the standards of love, compassion, and holiness given us in God's word.
I don't see any point in pretending otherwise, when both God and other people can see the truth of the matter.
The “theology” that I'm always so anxious to relate is meant for those who see themselves honestly as well - people who think they don't belong in church, don't belong in the company of other Christians because they well know they don't measure up to the standards I've mentioned.
I want them to know that none of us do - ever.
I want them to know that's the entire point of the Incarnation. God knows we don't, can't “measure up,” which is why He entered time and space through the Son who is one with Him.
He provided the gate we'd been after for thousands upon thousands of years.
I'm literally eternally grateful for that.
I'm thankful for the experience of His love, forgiveness, and His very presence.
That's me, loving Him - not a demand that you (whoever you may be) follow Him as well.
