Union Springs to host hearing on plan
The village of Union Springs will host a public hearing on a proposed comprehensive plan at 7 p.m. Jan. 16, in Village Hall, Chapel Street.
The plan for long-term goals and objectives has not been updated since 1982. The proposed plan has been in the works for the last few years, said Amy D'Angelo of the Cayuga County Office of Planning and Development.
Community Bank looks to expand
Community Bank System announced the purchase of Tupper Lake National Bank and its five Northern New York branches Tuesday.
The $17.6 million acquisition subject to regulatory and shareholder approval will add Tupper Lake, Plattsburgh and Saranac Lake locations to the Dewitt-based bank.
Community Bank has branches throughout Pennsylvania and New York, including offices in Cato and Moravia.
Special Olympics seeks volunteers
Special Olympics New York is seeking volunteers to fill key roles in support of competitions Feb. 23-25 in Syracuse.
Organizers need volunteers to: register athletes, set up and break down sports venues, present medals, distribute lunches, sell merchandise and help with the Olympic Village and Victory Dance.
Volunteers are also needed to staff the following athletic venues: Alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, figure skating, speed skating, snowshoeing and floor hockey. The deadline for volunteer registration is Feb. 15.

Health Dept. to hold additional flu clinic
The Cayuga County Health Department has added one additional flu clinic to be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, in the basement of the county office building.
The clinic is for adults ages 18 and older. No appointment is necessary and there is no charge for people with Medicare Part B. A Medicare card is required. If you do not have Medicare Part B insurance coverage, the cost for a flu shot is $30. A pneumococcal vaccine is also available for people with a doctor's prescription.
The cost of this shot is $45. A prescription is also required for pregnant women who wish to receive the flu shot.

New doors to be unveiled at Schine
At 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, the plywood is coming off the front doors of the Schine Theater on South Street and the new doors will be unveiled with a small reception at the theater.
DOT to hold meeting on Routes 5 and 20
The state Department of Transportation will host a public information meeting on reconstruction of Routes 5 and 20 in the town of Aurelius. DOT officials will be on hand to outline the project as well as answer questions and accept comments from the public from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, at Aurelius Town Hall, 1241 W. Genesee St. Road, Auburn.
A portion of Routes 5 and 20 around Half Acre Road will be overhauled in 2008 to address safety concerns at the intersection.
