It took three tries, but the Port Byron volleyball team finally won a five-game match.
The Panthers, in their third consecutive contest that came down to a tiebreaker, buckled down for a 25-21 win over visiting Weedsport in the final game of the match to win 3-2.
“The girls are finally coming together and playing smart ball,” Port Byron coach Marcy Lynch said.
Port Byron won the first two matches, 28-26 and 25-20, respectively, before the Warriors rallied back to win 25-23 and then 25-21.
The Panthers' Ashley Acome finished with four aces, a kill and 25 digs, Becca Manrow had nine kills, three blocks and a dig, Ashley Leja had 15 aces, eight kills and eight digs, Stephanie VanDitto had six kills and 21 assists, Brooke Ham and Ryan Mirabito had two aces each, Brittany Bigness had three kills, Jocelyn Emilio had an ace and three digs in one game, Courtney Christina had a kill and two blocks, and Kara Pitcher had two kills.
For the Warriors, Ryann Lamphere had four aces, eight kills, one assist and three blocks, Courtney White had an ace, six kills, an assist and two blocks, Lindsey Bigness had an assist, Maureen Fritz had five aces, two kills and an assist, Kaycie Paquette had four kills and an assist, Chelsea Paquette had an ace, a kill and an assist, Anna Wilson had two aces and eight assists, Heidi Robinson had three aces, three kills and 13 assists, and Murphy Enos had six aces and five kills.
The Panthers (3-8) play at LaFayette Saturday.

Diver Kate Scarbrough was the only Warrior to take first place by scoring 201.50 points.

Tim Pierce scored 18 points for the Blue Devils, and Nate Modafferi added 17 points in Saturday's loss.
Cato-Meridian (7-3) hosts Fabius Pompey Wednesday.

The Eagles were led by Ted Hart (10 points, seven rebounds), Mitch Merrill (nine) Christian Berwind (eight) and Jeff Donofrio (seven points, seven rebounds).
Jordan-Elbridge plays at Skaneateles Wednesday.
