Memorabilia show visits CNY
There will be a sports memorabilia and collectibles show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Jan. 28, at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse. There will be more than 50 vendors and more than 150 tables of all types of products set up in the Horticultural Building. Admission is $4, and children 10 and under are free.
Yankees third base coach Larry Bowa will be appearing in person from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be a fee for autographs.
Winter programs to start in Cato
The Cato-Meridian Community Recreation Center will begin winter programs next week. Its seven-week session starts Jan. 8.
Programs include: swim lessons (all levels), deep water workout, Arthritis Foundation aquatics program, yoga, karate, osteoporosis exercise class, volleyball and flag football.
Classes are available at the center, 2851 Route 370 East, Cato. For more information, call 626-6735 for program times.
Holmberg to put on baseball clinic
Dennis Holmberg, manager of the Auburn Doubledays and winner of five straight Pinckney Division titles, will be putting on a baseball clinic with his son, Kenny, in the indoor batting tunnel at Falcon Park in Auburn. The clinic is open to children between ages 10 and 15 and will take place Jan. 25 and 27.
Holmberg has instructed the clinic for five years and has been a member of the Toronto Blue Jays organization for nearly 30 years.
His son, Kenny, was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2005, the same organization that drafted Dennis.
Sign-ups are now being taken at the Doubledays offices located at 130 N. Division St. between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday or over the phone at 255-2489.
The clinic is $40 and there is space for only 40 players. All participants will receive a certificate for Doubledays tickets along with a Doubledays cap.
Fly-tying course begins next week
Bass Pro Shops will host two six-week basic fly-tying courses. Classes will be from 2 to 4 p.m., Mondays, and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Thursdays, starting the week of Jan. 8. Students should bring their own vise and tools; a textbook, hooks and materials will be provided. The cost is $30, and sign-ups are available at the Fly Shop.

LeMoyne College is hosting softball clinics from 9 a.m. to noon Sundays, Jan. 7, 14, 21 and 28, and Feb. 11, at the LeMoyne Athletic and Recreation Building.
The cost is $12 per week and is for girls 10 and up. The clinic offers instruction in pitching, catching, hitting, fielding and base running by the LeMoyne coaching staff and current and former players.
