Stingrays dominate Oswego, head to Watertown Saturday

The Auburn YMCA Stingray swim team remained on its win streak after its first tie in nearly six years, toppling visiting Oswego last week by a score of 9-1. The Stingrays travel to Watertown on Saturday to begin a four-week dual meet stint heading into the CNY District Championships which will be held at the Auburn YMCA, Saturday, Feb. 3.
The E-Girls (ages 8 and under) were the only age group to fall, by a score of 46-31. Cassie Brown finished second in the 100 individual medley and 50 free and Yasmine Smith also took second in the 100 free and 25 free while taking third in the 50 free. Emily Harding captured second in the 25 breast and third in the 100 individual medley and 25 fly. Hannah Gargan placed second in the 25 back and third in the 100 free, and Julia Angotti finished third in both the 25 free and 25 breast.

The E-Boys had a much easier opponent and cruised to a 41-3 win. Jacob Whiting was unstoppable taking first in the 100 individual medley, 50 free and 25 breast while teammate Nicholas Gavras won the 25 free and 25 back. Andrew Bragg claimed second in the 25 free and 50 free, and Ben Keffer placed second in the 25 back.

Zoey McDonald swam first in both the 100 free and 50 breast as the D-Girls (ages 9 and 10) fought back after falling behind early, to take a 47-30 decision. Natalie Coppola added more points placing second in the 100 individual medley and third in the 100 free. Alexis Liberatore captured second in the 50 back and 200 free, and Abbie Conners won the 50 fly. Keyanna Coleman took second in the 50 fly and third in the 100 individual medley and Marie Wayne captured second in the 50 free. Kristina Stephens placed third in the eight-lap 200 free.

Max Keffer won the 100 individual medley and the 200 free as the D-Boys swam unopposed. Philip Hauger took first in the 50 breast and 50 free, and Dan Carter also placed first in the 50 fly and second in the 100 individual medley. Daniel Angotti won the 50 back and Nathan Harding claimed first in the 100 free. Josh Herrick captured second in the 100 free and 50 breast, and his brother Jake swam to a second-place finish in the 50 back. Zachary Buchberger finished second in the 200 free and the 50 fly, and Derrick Allio touched second in the 50 free. Cory Knapp finished second in the 100 individual medley.

The C-Girls (ages 11 and 12) also had an easy day, winning 55-22 as Mackenzie Hauger won the 200 individual medley and 50 fly, while Kara Cunningham took first in the 50 free and 50 back. Tally McDonald finished first in the 50 breast and Michaela Elliott fought her way to second-place finishes in both the 50 fly and 100 free. Amanda Falsey touched second in the 50 breast and third in the 200 free, and Onea Kloster swam second in the 200 free behind Falsey. Katlin Salemi placed third in the 50 breast as did Mary Jane Leja in the 100 free. Emily Rifanburg claimed third in the 200 individual medley.

Matt Tehan led the C-Boys over a one-man Oswego team as he took first in the 50 free and 100 free while teammate Collin Mitchell swam first in the 50 breast and 200 individual medley. Brett Ryan stayed hot winning the 200 free and 50 back, and Jeremy Sliss claimed second in the 50 back and 100 free. Andrew Bauso took third in the 50 free.

The B-Girls (ages 13 and 14) also took advantage of a much smaller Oswego team and pulled off a 57-23 victory. Ashley King cruised past the competition winning the 200 free and 100 free as did Allison White en-route to a first-place finish in the 100 fly and a second in the 100 back. Bethany Schroeder kept the pace, taking first in the 20-lap, 500 free, second in the 50 free and third in the 100 breast. Kristin Cunningham won the 100 back by more than four seconds and also touched second in the 200 free. Danielle Lang claimed second in the 500 free and third in the 50 free, and Molly Blair took third in the 100 free. Kathryn Carter placed second in the 100 breast.

Johnny Tehan won the 100 breast, 500 free and placed second in the 50 free as the B-boys posted a convincing 55-10 win. Sean Doyle touched first in the 50 free and Adam Zelehowsky finished first in the 100 free and second in the 200 free. Reid Swartz also claimed first in the 100 back and second in the 100 free. Justin Sawran swam away with a first-place finish in the 200 free and a second-place finish in the 500 free, and Connor Kilmer placed second in the 100 back.

Kiersten Salemi led the A-Girls (ages 15 and up) to a 55-20 division win with first-place finishes in both the 500 free and 50 free as did Sarah Blair winning the 100 fly and 100 free. Kelsey Roe took first in the 100 back and second in the 100 fly behind Blair, and Mallorie Dygert won the 100 breast and touched second in the 500 free behind Salemi. Candice Elliottt captured first in the 200 individual medley and Tiffany Kline placed second in the 50 free. Jamie Walter finished strong claiming third in the 200 free as did Tracy Miller to touch third in the 100 back. Janna Fiermonte added more points placing third in the 100 free as did Reagan Cuddy in the 100 breast.

The A-Boys also swam against a one-man Oswego team as Greg Rifanburg fought off his teammates to win the 200 free. Tristan White took first in the 100 back and second in the 50 free, and Lucas Zelehowsky placed first in the 100 fly and second in the 100 breast. Sean McNamara easily won the 200 individual medley and touched third in the 100 back. Mark Cool worked overtime to finish second in the 100 free and third in the 100 breast and Cameron Lovenduski swam first in the 100 fly. Steve Shaftt placed second in the 200 free, and Preston Chaffee captured second in the 500 free. Patrick O'Donovan swam the 20-lap, 500 free for the first time and won with a time of 459.62, 2-sec. off the 10-year Stingray record held by Aaron Roof. O'Donovan also went on to win the 50 free.
