Two Cents

Today morality appears to have gone down the tubes. A man and a woman living together, whether married or not, separate for the flimsiest reason, each believing that he or she is the greatest person in the world and is entitled to have everything his or her way.
Why is it that in the asbestos investigation legislative spokeswoman Petrus always seems to be the last one up there to know what's going on? Probably why she was given the position.

Why are only a portion of the arrests that occur at Auburn High School ever reported in The Citizen? Is The Citizen just a terrible source of information or are school administrators trying to hide something?

In terms of grammar, content and an all around butchering of the English language, I thought no letter to the editor could possibly be worse than some of those written by Joe Leogrande. That was, however, up until I read Cherry Love-Duncan's.

This “slightly to the right of center” Auburnian truly believes that The Citizen is the most honest and fair newspaper in the U.S. and when we get temporarily outraged at the liberal nonsense like we read in Tuesday's Two Cent column, we have to remember that they have a right to have their nonsense printed, just as The Citizen allows we “slightly to the right of center” to have our facts out in the open.

John Chick has been arrested for the asbestos scandal. Let's see what kind of a chick he turns out to be; I'll bet it's a canary.

I think we need to hire Dave and the Auburn High School team to come in front of city council and show them what teamwork is all about. Maybe we could get city council to get a little teamwork going.

I think the teachers at the high school do need diversity.

The city could save a lot of money if it permanently affixed the yellow crime scene tape around the entire city limits of Auburn and left it there permanently, instead of every time there's a crime in Auburn putting up new tape and taking it down again.

On his last few days as sheriff, I wish Robert Outhouse would order his deputies to stake out the Lakeside Trading Gas station in Union Springs and write tickets for everybody buying untaxed gasoline. These people are committing felonies and should not continue to get away with it.

I really feel Auburn needs more jobs. We don't need another drug store.

These people that are on WIC, when they go to the grocery store shopping, why don't they go through a larger lane? The other day I got caught behind two people going through the express lane.

When I read Judy's Ducayne's column of Dec. 26 about animals being in her freezer or on a leash, I wanted to vomit. Get this dangerous person out of the paper.

Judy Ducayne, go back to the dark ages with you archaic “a woman's place is in the home” attitude. You are nothing but a weak subservient doormat that gives real women a bad name.

Why would those three department heads ever want to go some place else when they've got the opportunity to work elbow to elbow with David Dempsey.

There's nothing wrong with Councilor Smith except he's fighting an uphill battle. He's the only one on the council with any sense; people should listen to him more.

If you're going to print the negative statements about the new sheriff that's going to be sworn in soon, it's only fair that you print the positive things about him. He's a very good man, he hasn't even taken office yet and you need to give him a chance.

I just see that John Chick's major job for the county was driving Mr. Lepak around. Why would Mr. Lepak have to be driven around and how much did the taxpayers pay for that?

Judy Ducayne, if people had enough backbone to tell the truth today, I think you would be surprised to know how many agree with all you had to say in your column on Dec. 26. It was a wonderful expression of what a lot of people think but don't say.

" I grew up in Auburn, but I left there about 20 years ago. It wasn't a bad place to be from. I think Auburn's biggest problem has always been the Auburn Correctional Facility. I don't know if they do it any more, but they used to allow inmates to get married while they were there and once married they could have conjugal visits in trailers in the prison yard. Hello, you are supporting this incarcerated person and allowing them to create families they cannot support which you are also supporting. The families of these inmates relocate to Auburn and take up residence. As a result your city is loaded with welfare dependant families with little or no desire to be responsible for themselves. I came to visit about a year ago. Yuk! Glad I had enough sense to leave. "

" I got two comments. One is for the person who thinks people buying untaxed gas is wrong. If that's what you think our Sheriffs dept. should be focusing on, you need some serious help. Two, just because David Goulds a "good man" doesn't mean he can run the sheriffs deparment. "Good men" doesn't necessarily mean "good job". But talk to him maybe he will stake out the gas station in Union Springs and ticket people for buying untaxed gas for the other person who wrote in. You can all be "good men" together. "

Stick it out and clean it up because you care wrote on Jan 2, 2007 7:42 AM:

" Maybe people say bad things about their hometown because they CARE about it -- they want to expose the bad things so they can be cleaned up -- maybe their town is worth fighting for, rather than just bailing out and going someplace else -- where there will be corruption as well. You can't escape it -- you can only do your best to fight it and clean it up, and public awareness is the first step. Keeping your mouth shut is just enabling the corruption to continue unchallenged. "

" Look- I'm going to say this...you can all sit around and complain about what the city has come to...but guess what....its not just your city....its the whole world....its not about welfare, wic, foodstamps, or neighborhoods....its simple....its divided by classes....and has been forever...HIGH...MIDdle...and lower...and if housing is an issue...which it is there, then you are going to have good neighborhoods become bad neighborhoods, and bad neighborhoods become worse...trash and chicken???? I believe it and I see nothing wrong with the comment on a non race related term. You all complain about taxes...yet what happens when these bad eggs end up in jail? YOU PAY! so what?? *NEWSFLASH* your LOSING no matter what. How bout we take a look at ourselves and ask why a father who kills his 4 year old daughter and shows no remorse...my the little girls mother is still on the streets abandoning her remaining child to drink up the town....why there is more cocaine beind distributed in auburn then Columbia...why pot is grown in more households than families...why Auburn hasn't solved a crime since the last person turned themself in for it. Come on here....what does complaining really do? GO OUT!!! SIGN SOME PETITIONS! EMAIL A CONGRESSMAN!!! DO SOMETHING CONSTRUCTIVE! "

" Not everyone who lives in apartment complexes are on WELFARE. I live in the Village taking care of my dying 72 yr old grandmother who has worked all of her life until retirement and we've always kept a clean house and lawn. However, the neighbors we have next to us is a totally different situation. I guess the good does out number the bad in peoples eyes. "

" Thanks Brew for your mom's words which are absolutely correct, good manners, and common sense. The constant stream of negative "Two Cents" writers whining and complaining is part of the problem, so why not start out 2007 by getting up off your chair to help out, and be part of the solution instead? "

" malone village-oak creek-CITY of Auburn-it's all the same! how to clean it all up? start going street by street-find some old law that nails every house-for clean up! Get rid of: the drugs in the town, illegal WIC/food stamp/welfare abusers, beg your judges to be less tolerant! I believe the good in Auburn is out-numbered by the bad-clean up will be a chore but it must involve everyone! I so miss the smells of italian cooking as i walk down orchard street, and the smells of polish cooking as i walk to casey park school.. take back Auburn in 2007!! "

" Try being behind an extremely large woman buying 4 12 packs of Pepsi and the biggest bag of Hershey Kisses that Wegmans sells, and use FOOD STAMPS to buy it! Food Stamps SHOULD be for FOOD and not be useable for candy and soda and other crap! I love to see my tax money supporting a 400lb sugar addicted woman. "

" The disctrict needs to better screen substitute teachers for the HS. Although the majority are highly qualified and motivated, beware of those who keep dangerous views to themselves and who do not have the students' best interests in mind! Our school faces enough challenges. Let's not add to them by hiring people who don't embrace the diversity of our city. "

" Can't you find anything good to say about your hometown? If it is so bad then move somewhere else. Your attitude can't do anything to make life better. Get off your butt and get out and help make life in Auburn better. Constant griping is no answer. My mother told me when I was a child that if I have nothing good to say then say nothing. "
