The Rolling Stones always get what they want
It's been another bang-up year on the road for the Rolling Stones.
For the second year in a row, the World's Greatest Rock ‘n' Roll Band lived up to the billing and topped the list of the biggest-grossing North American tours of 2006. The Stones sold $138.5 million worth of tickets for 39 A Bigger Bang shows, per figures released by concert industry trade Pollstar.
The figure ranks third on Pollstar's all-time list, coming in behind the $138.9 million in sales registered by U2 in 2005 and the record $162 million also generated by the Stones last year.
Since launching A Bigger Bang in August 2005, the Stones have sold more than 1 million tickets.
The British rockers helped to push this year's total North American receipts to a record-breaking $3.6 billion, up 16 percent from last year's $3.1 billion.
Gyllenhaals flee lodge after early morning fire
If only the Gyllenhaal siblings' careers were all that was on fire these days.
Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal were forced to evacuate the rustic Northern California lodge they were staying at Wednesday when a fire broke out in the chilly early morning hours, the Marin Independent Journal reported.
The fire destroyed the main building at Manka's Inverness Lodge, as well as the getaway's acclaimed restaurant, but no injuries were reported from either the staff or the hotel's dozen or so guests.
“Jake was helping me pull things out of the fire,” Daniel DeLong, who co-owns Manka's with partner Margaret Grad, told the Journal.
Spears' latest fashion choice may cost her fans
Is Britney Spears' lack of undies seriously undermining her fan base?
Ruben Garay, the webmaster of World of Britney (worldofbritney.com) and arguably her biggest devotee, has announced plans to shut down the six-year-old site in the wake of the “Toxic” singer's recent run of questionable behavior.
“As Britney keeps losing her identity and credibility within fans and industry people, so is (World of Britney),” Garay writes.
“I believe Britney is unfortunately done (for me at least). No matter what anyone thinks or how they may disagree, it's very hard to maintain the respect needed to keep things going.”
The Web shrine, which bears the motto “Dream, Create, Deliver, Inspire” and has meticulously chronicled all things Spears for the better part of the millennium, will continue to run until Jan. 31.
