Four US diplomatic initiatives in 2007 for our Iraq strategy:
Mister President, we accomplished a democratic government for Iraq.
Now, let us, please, consider:
1: An agreement between the main energy importing countries to buy oil and gas shipments exclusively at one internationally regulated commodity exchange.
2: The UN replaces the US coalition forces in Iraq with an Islamic and mostly Arabic speaking UN Peace Corps to motivate the Iraqi security forces and to stabilize the country for three years.
The US offers financial aid for the UN troops and an Iraq “Marshall Plan,” paid by the savings from our Iraq military budget of ca. $100 billion annually.
3: In 2007 the UN prepares and invites to a “Millennium Wider Middle East Peace Conference 2008” with an agenda by the diplomats of the region.
(Possible issues: A. Mutual acceptance of different political systems and religions; B. Defense agreements; C. Prosperity treaties; D. Environmental regulations; E. Minority rights; F. Coordination of foreign relations, etc.)
4: Israel should see a chance for its security concerns by becoming a partner in the region, if it accepts and implements in 2007 the “Crown Prince Abdullah Proposal 2002.”
Palestinians should see the chance for freedom by offering a 25 (30, 40, or 50) year lease with the right of self-policing for all settlements of the West Bank.
All other important negotiations for a prosperous and peaceful neighborhood can follow, when the two parties can sit together at one table as equals with the same primary interests for their future.
In the end, in a politically stabilized region, Ben Laden's followers will prefer the real hope for a better life instead of death as suicide bombers. In all likelihood, terrorism will be gone.
Mission accomplished and peace on Earth!
Mr. President, please order your administration to implement and coordinate these initiatives as soon as possible. The world will thank you.
Have a good New Year!
