Fagan earns scholarship
A Cayuga County resident has been awarded approximately $4,500 for the “Presidential Scholarship” to attend Alfred State College.
Patrick Fagan of Cayuga is slated to graduate in 2007 from Dana L. West High School and intends to enroll in the undeclared major program.
Cayuga trustees meet this month
The regular monthly meeting of the Cayuga Community College Board of Trustees will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, in the college's Business and Industry Center on the Auburn campus.
Seward House closes in January
Visitors have a few days left to enjoy the Victorian Christmas decorations at Seward House.
Through Dec. 30, the museum will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday
Seward House will close during the month of January for housekeeping and maintenance projects and will re-open for the 2007 season at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1.
Seward House, a designated National Historic Landmark, was the home of William Henry Seward (1801-1872), governor of New York, a state and U.S. senator and secretary of state to Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson.
Montezuma group receives funding
Paul Baker, president of the Montezuma Historical Society announced the receipt of a GET SET grant of $1,907 to retain the help of a museum specialist.
The society will secure the services of Joann Lindstrom from Ithaca to assist in a strategic planning process.
The GET SET grant, from the New York State Council on the Arts, is administered by the Upstate History Alliance.
Lindstrom has been in the museum field since 1994, serving as a curator for several historical societies in upstate New York.
She holds a B.A. in history from New Paltz College and is pursuing a master's in public administration with non-profit concentration from Binghamton University.
The strategic plan will help assess the organization's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats and outline a plan of action for the next five years.

The Cato-Meridian Community Recreation Center announces its seven-week session starts Jan. 8.
Programs include: Swim lessons (all levels), deep water workout, arthritis foundation aquatics program, yoga, karate, osteoporosis exercise class, volleyball and flag football.
