Youth Swimming
After last week's age division tie to Norwich, the Auburn Stingrays Swim team regrouped and returned home from CNY rival Cortland on Saturday bringing home an impressive 8-2 dual meet win.
Julia Angotti took first in the 25 breaststroke and second in the 25 free to push the E-Girls (ages 8 and under) to a 43-19 win.Yasmine Smith swam first in the 25 fly, and Cassie Brown placed first in the 100 free. Katie Kelly took second in the 50 free, as did Lindsey Roe in the 25 breaststroke. Hannah Gargan helped the cause finishing second in the 100 free, and Madison Bachman held on to take third in the 50 free. Haley Penird also swam third in the 25 back.
Cortland bounced back defeating Auburn 54-11 in the E-Boys division. Jacob Whiting captured first in the 25 back, second in the 25 back and third in the 25 fly. McCauley Kolonko finished third in the 25 free, and Ben Keffer held on to also take third in the 100 free.
Cortland again swam tough, taking down the D-Girls (ages 9 and 10), 57-16. Brianna Chehovich, Kristina Stephens, Katie Parker and Zoey McDonald teamed to win the 200 free relay, while McDonald went on to win the 50 breaststroke and place second in the 100 free. Abbie Conners touched second in the 50 fly and third in the 50 free, and Chehovich claimed third in the 50 back. Jenna Page finished third in the 50 breast and Parker also captured third in the 50 fly. Stephens touched third in the 200 free.
Auburn bounced back as Max Keffer won the 50 free and finished second in the 200 free as the D-Boys pushed a late run and won 45-30. Philip Hauger won the required 50 breast and joined Dan Carter, Cory Knapp and Zachary Buchberger to win the 200 free relay and close the door. Hauger also placed second in the 50 free and Carter took second in the 100 individual medley and 50 fly. Buchberger captured second in the 100 free and third in the 200 free, and Jacob Herrick added more points placing second in the 50 back and third in the 100 free. Knapp touched third in the 100 individual medley.
The C-Girls (ages 11 and 12) remained undefeated, holding on to win 41-29. Kara Cunningham won the 200 free, 100 free and 50 back and had plenty of help as Mackenzie Hauger won the 50 free and 50 breast. Even more help came from Michaela Elliott, who pushed her way to a first-place finish in the 50 fly, and Tally McDonald took second in the 50 breast and third in the 200 individual medley. McDonald teamed with Hauger, Jessica Wilkes and Mary Jane Leja to take first in the 200 free relay.
The C-Boys won the day's closest division, 37-35, as the relay team of Luke Wilczek, Collin Mitchell, Matt Tehan and Brett Ryan finished first in the 200 free by less than one second, sealing the victory. Mitchell took first in the 50 free and second in the 100 free and Tehan found second in both the 200 free and 50 breast. Ryan settled for second in the 50 back missing first by 0.72 and finished third in the 200 free behind Tehan. Miles Santiago captured second in the 50 fly, and Wilczek placed third in the 100 free. Jeremy Sliss swam third in the 50 free.
Ashley King cruised to wins in the 200 free, 50 free and 500 free as the B-Girls (ages 13 and 14) won the last four individual events and posted a 47-39 win. Kristen Cunningham also had a big day in the pool, taking first in the 100 back and 100 free, and Kathryn Carter also touched first in the 100 breast and third in the 200 individual medley. Allison White placed second in the 200 individual medley and third in the 100 fly and Bethany Schroeder captured second in the 100 breast and third in the 100 free. Molly Blair contributed finishing third in the 50 free and also joined Carter, Danielle Lang and Devon Balk to take first in the 200 free relay.
Adam Zelehowsky took first in the 200 free and 100 back, and Justin Sawran fought to win the 50 free by 0.19, and go on to swim second in the 100 free as the B-boys posted a convincing 45-13 winning score. John Tehan started the season where he left off taking first in the 100 breast, and Sean Doyle claimed second in the 100 breast and third in the 100 free. Connor Kilmer placed second in the 50 free, and Patrick Stephens took third in the 200 free.
The A-Girls (ages 15 and up) avenged last week's rare loss and brought all the big guns back from high school sectionals to win 60-22. Mallory Dygert swam first in the 100 and 200 freestyle events, and Kelsey Roe took first in the 200 individual medley and 100 back while touching second in the 50 free. Candice Elliott placed first in the 100 breast and second in the 200 free and Kiersten Salemi won the grueling 500 free. Sarah Blair also won the 50 free, and Tracy Miller fought her way to a second-place finish in the 100 fly and a third-place finish in the 500 free. Janna Fiermonte captured third in the 100 free and Blair, Elliott, Dygert and Salemi joined forces to win the last event, the 400 free relay.
The A-Boys had to make a late run, pulling off a 49-37 winning decision. Patrick O'Donovan won the 50 free and 100 back and Cameron Lovenduski held on to win the 100 fly. Tristan White placed first in the 200 free and second in both the 100 free and 100 back, and Preston Chaffee finished first in the 100 breast and third in the 50 free. Lucas Zelehowsky took second in the 200 individual medley and 100 fly and Mark Cool held on to claim third in the 100 free and 100 breast. Greg Rifanburg contributed more points swimming third in both the 200 free and 500 free. Steve Shaftt teamed with Lovenduski, O'Donovan and Zelehowsky to close the door winning the 400 free relay.
