Two Cents

Councilman Matt Smith and Planner Jenny Haines would rather fix up a dilapidated house on Van Anden Street and fix a sidewalk on Perrine Street than restore the downtown to its previous efficient condition to draw in more business for this community.
There is only one true champion of the people on the city council and his name is David Dempsey.

After reading and looking at the photos in the Maroon Monthly, I couldn't help wondering why the children's names who are writing to our soldiers in Iraq are not identified, as are not the children in the photo directly above it, who were in the dodgeball tournament. Why are the names given in some photos and not in others?

According to our new secretary of defense, the war in Iraq is a situation where we are not winning it and we are not losing it, so we must be at a standstill. It's about time the Bush administration got their job in force.

Something terrible happened when I turned in a Two Cents about Shoeless Joe Jackson: It said that Joe Jackson was a pitcher. My being a national champion in baseball trivia dozens of times, I of course knew that Joe Jackson, along with Ted Williams, was the greatest left fielder that ever played baseball.

If Baker, Hamilton, Barbara Boxer and Joe Biden were in charge 60 years ago, we'd all be speaking Japanese and German right now.

" Isn't it nice when someone is trying to do something nice, such as collect donations for the Salvation Army, but the Fingerlakes Mall still won't let a bell ringer INSIDE. NOTE: Bell ringers don't ring bells if allowed inside to collect donations. So Gina, HAPPY HOLIDAYS and just don't forget the meaning of the seasons. "

" Isn't that a fact So true. People would quake if they would really learn about the Clinton 8 yrs in office. God help us if the next one should be elected president. "

Clinton worries wrote on Dec 12, 2006 5:41 PM:

" I really worries me that Hilary Clinton, whom I don't like and wouldn't trust as far as I could throw her, is the only politician with any kind of serious response to the devasting health care problem coming our way, already upon us, really. I stood in the voting booth a long time this past election, despising the other candidates even more, and just could not bring myself to vote for that harpy. In the end, I left that line blank -- can't imagine how long I'll stand there, frustrated with the lack of a decent, honorable, trustworthy candidate for President -- because the odds are extremely strong she will not only run, but be elected as the first woman President of the United States. What a sad blow for those of us who reluctantly allow the label "feminist" to be applied to us, to have a crook like Hilary Clinton be a seriously viable contender for the presidency. We are Rome in the decline and fall.... "
