GENOA - After spending four years living in Florida, the Clay family decided that Christmas just didn't feel right without the snow.
To celebrate their first Christmas back in New York, they decided that Christmas in Genoa was just what the season is all about.

“The wagon rides and Santa was something we have been looking forward to,” said Lana Clay, of Locke, during the annual Christmas in Genoa party held at the United Church of Genoa, Saturday afternoon. “It is really nice being back where the snow is.”

The Christmas party was the eighth annual for the community which is sponsored by the church along with the Ladies Fire Department Auxiliary.

After registering for a chance to win a jar full of candy kisses guests were treated to free pictures with Santa, face painting and Christmas card crafts.

“It is just a fun Christmas thing to do for the community,” said the church's pastor, Larry Bell. “Everyone just loves it.”

“The kids just loved making their own Christmas Cards,” said church member Becky Davis.

Davis, a Spanish teacher for a local school said that she was able to put her Spanish language skills to work when local Spanish families attended the event earlier in the day. “Its just a nice time for everyone young and old alike,” she said.

Although clowns aren't what one would typically expect to find at a Christmas party, the children didn't complain when Jolly the clown appeared ready to share in the Christmas joy.

“A clown at Christmas that is just silly,” said 10-year-old Dollon Couturier, of Moravia. “But I like it. She was funny.”

Shopping for their families Christmas presents was the highlight of many of the kids afternoon.

The party had a shopping area for children only that parents were not allowed to enter.

“The kids love that part,” Bell said. “I know that a lot of the kids got all of their shopping done right here.”

The kids were even treated to free gift wrapping for the presents they purchased.

“It is just a fun day for the kids,” Bell said. “We wanted to do something for the community.”
