Little Ralphie Parker's fictional quest for a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas has become a seasonal classic on television. Now, for the first time locally, Seneca Community Players brings Jean Shepherd's hilarious and heart warming story to the stage when it presents “A Christmas Story” in the Delavan Theatre on the New York Chiropractic College campus. Directed by Ellie Albro, this fond and funny tribute to the original, 100-percent red-blooded, all-American Christmas is produced locally by Kim Brown.
Adapted by Philip Grecian and based on Shepherd's book “In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash,” “A Christmas Story” recounts the story of the Parker family's Christmas in 1940s Indiana when 9-year-old Ralphie (Drew Fegley) had nothing on his mind but getting the “Holy Grail of Christmas presents” - a genuine Red Ryder carbine-action, 200-shot, Range model BB rifle with a compass in the stock. Like the movie, the play is narrated by the adult Ralph (Patrick Fegley) who weaves together tales from his family, school and even a visit to the store Santa, as his quest is thwarted everywhere by warnings of “You'll shoot your eye out.”
