Elderly woman crashes car into Union Springs school
An 87-year-old Seneca Falls woman was immobilized in her vehicle for a few hours overnight Monday after her car crashed into a column at the Union Springs Central School.
Mildred Hayes, of 8 Chestnut St., had been driving home from her brother's residence in Union Springs around 10:30 p.m. when her accelerator of her car got stuck, Auburn-based state police reported.
Her car went through the intersection of Hillview Drive and Route 90, through a school parking lot and over a cement curb before hitting a steel column on school grounds. Hayes broke a femur in the accident, leaving her incapacitated until Hayes' relatives had called her home to make sure she had arrived safely. When she did not answer they began looking for her. State police responded to her accident at 1 a.m.
