The trial of Chester E. Gillette, which came to a close at Herkimer, N.Y., last night when the jury reported a verdict of guilty of murder in the first degree, has attracted widespread attention. Tomorrow Gillete will be sentenced to death in the electric chair in Auburn prison.

Cpl. John Barry Mitchell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Mitchell of New Hope, will arrive home tomorrow following
a year's tour of duty in Korea. He was a member of the third division for a month before being transferred to the 9th infantry regiment, second division, of which he was a member until being discharged at Camp Kilmer on his arrival in the states last week.

AUBURN - The county may make a move toward providing funding for the Owasco Lake seawall. County Legislator David Walrath, R-Sennett, said he plans to bring up a resolution for improvements to the seawall at Tuesday's County Legislature meeting.

SKANEATELES - Dr. Charles Ryan, an accomplished physician and surgeon of 46 years, died suddenly Sunday at his winter home in Sarasota, Fla. He was 79. In 1955, he opened his Auburn practice and treated patients here until the early part of this year, when he retired from his North Street office. During his 46-year tenure in this city, he served for several years as chief of surgery at Auburn Memorial Hospital and was also affiliated with Mercy Hospital.
