Column on Wicca had positive consequences

Tuesday, December 5, 2006 9:41 AM EST

Judy Ducayne's column, in which she made certain assertions about the Wiccan religion, has had consequences. The most obvious has been the readers' public responses.
The ones less obvious have been the most personal, all of which have been positive and supportive.

One of the consequences she did not intend, nor did I expect, is that she has caused my love life to be revitalized considerably! Who knew?

A very handsome young man, of passing acquaintance, had been wanting to get to know me better for several years - intrigued by Ms. Ducayne's column, he seized the opportunity. Now he knows what a witch is really capable of doing.

I am reminded of a quote from one of my role models, Beatrice Wood of Ojai, Calif. Ms. Wood is (or was) a renowned ceramist and regarded as the “Mama of Dada,” (an impressionist art form).

In a 1996 interview, at the age of 101, Ms. Wood stated “when a young man tells me he loves me, I fall into his lap like a ripe grape!”

Due to this turn of events, I hereby promise not to dry up Judy's cows nor to wither her crops.

I'm much too happy to be bitter.

I wish the same for Judy Ducayne.

" Ms. Rosell, You GO Girl! I think your letter was the perfect response to Ms. Ducayne's uninformed and blatantly one sided column. As a journalist "wannabe" who loves newspapers, I cannot for the life of me figure out why the Citizen cannot find a columnist who reflects a conservative point of view, but uses facts rather than inflammatory falsehoods. It smacks of laziness on the part of the editorial staff. Just because Ms. Ducayne's columns generate angry responses doesn't mean her lies are worthwhile. It degrades the reading public, but more to the point, it degrades the entire paper. She may be on the opinion page with an opinion column, but that does not let her off the hook as far as factual relevance is concerned. "

" Ms. Rosell, I find your letter to be disgusting. I, in no way shape or form agreed w/ Ms. Ducayne's views on Wicca as I found them ignorant and biased. However, your letter above detailing your love life is in incredibly poor taste and puts you at the same level with Judy. This newspaper should not be used as a forum to air YOUR love life or Judy's prejudices. Grow up already. "
