YMCA to host
racquetball tourney

The Auburn YMCA-WEIU is hosting the 26th annual Freeze-Out Racquetball Tournament, Dec. 1-3.

The single-elimination tournament is open to both youth and adult players and offers divisions for all skill levels and all ages. Double divisions are also available.

All matches will be played at the YMCA, and matches consist of two games to 15 points, with a tiebreaker to 1 if necessary. The fee includes a commemorative shirt, hospitality throughout the weekend, a hot buffet on Saturday and awards for all finalists.

Registration forms are available at the YMCA. The deadline to register is Nov. 29.

Soap box derby will take place in May

The 2007 edition of the Nucor Bar Mill Central New York All-American Soap Box Derby will be held May 26. Boys and girls ages 8-17 are eligible to participate.

Cheerleading tryouts start this week

The CNY Storm All Stars will be holding tryouts for their half year team from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 14. The competitive cheerleading program is open to all cheerleaders ages 8-14.

The team practices twice a week November through April and performs and competes locally.

There are also openings on the local team, which practices just once a week now through April and performs and competes in the Syracuse and Utica areas only. That team is open to all cheerleaders ages 11-18.

The team works out of the CNY Cheer Company gym located at 130 Hiawatha Place in Syracuse. Additional information about the teams and upcoming tryouts is available at www.cnystorm.com or call the program director, Kathy Penree at 866-0225.

Bass Pro offering licensing course

Bass Pro Shops Sportsman's Center will be offering a Coast Guard licensing course Nov. 15, 22, 29 and 30.

YMCA to offer Youth Mileage Club

The Auburn YMCA-WEIU is offering a 12-week Youth Mileage Club for ages 8-13 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. starting Nov. 20.

Participants will receive a pedometer and a chart to keep tally of all the mileage they walked. Each week participants will have a new challenge and for every 10 miles logged you will receive a “foot charm.”

Every participant who completes the program will receive an official club shirt.
