Why do some think laws don't apply to them?

Monday, November 13, 2006 9:31 AM EST

Whenever I hear a story like the Dunkin' Donuts predicament, I get very concerned.
It seems that more and more people totally ignore rules and regulations. People using cell phones while driving are another example of blatant disregard for a law.

The article in The Citizen recently stated that the police chief said they may have to close the drive-through at Dunkin' Donuts or put more officers on the street to take care of such situations.

Why do some people think that obeying rules and regulations are not meant for them?

Are they the same people who show lack of respect for all types of law enforcement even up the ranks to the president?

Even if you do not agree with the laws or policies, respect should still be shown.

What kind of example do we want to show our children and grandchildren?

Now that the election is over, whether you agree with the results or not, can't we do a better job as a citizen? I think we can try.

" I saw the channel 3 report about those left turners into the Dunkin Donuts drive thru. They went up to the car of those that turned illegally and those drivers didnt even notice the no left turn sign. Yes some probably break the law knowing full well the sign is there, BUT not all Auburn traffic is Auburnians. Closing the drive thru wont solve the problem either, I have seen several illegal left turners park in the lot. Its a bad location for such a popular spot in the morning. Lack of planning on the City's part is going to be a problem for the owner of that location, NOT for the City and that is a shame. Reminds me of John Walsh Blvd. A street that cant be connected, why? did someone miss something in the planning? was there any planning? Seems like the City falls asleep at the wheel and the community and businesses are the ones that suffer. "

" Why not write a couple hundred tickets at Dunkin Donuts? Then maybe you can avoid raising trash rates. Get 'em for talking on their cell phones too before they kill someone. "

" I would like to know if the Citizen could keep it's readers updated on whats going on at the Plaza where Home Depot is, what else is going in there? What about the hotel that was going up next to the Fingerlakes Mall I thought that was coming this past year, hello it's almost 2007 and still no hotel. Was this just a ploy to get stores to move into the mall or is it really going to happen. "

" Why is it the Fingerlakes Mall never decorates for the Christmas Holiday except for the Santa house and the ugly fake "things" hanging from the ceiling. How very boring,it lacks Christmas spirit, I thought once Bass Pro and some of the other stores came to the mall that the mall would actually spruce things up for the holidays and make people feel like doing there Christmas Shopping there but I don't I'd rather drive to Rochester or Syracuse and see all the decorations, lights and see some of the special programs they have set up for the holidays.... I guess with Fingerlakes Mall it's all about money and not wanting to spend any to make the mall more festive. Too bad for them "

" this is because it has turned into a world were most care nothing but for them selfs and if getting from point a to point kills someone, their willing to take the chance, maybe what some of us need to do is get a video camera and start taping people ignoring stop signs and speeding and dangerous driving and turn it over to the police. i have had that idea for a while.
