The dissolution of a contract between the Auburn Enlarged City School District and a California-based software company may come up at tonight's board of education meeting.
Last spring, administrators, faculty and staff received training on the student tracking software program, Power School, one in a variety of software packages that lets schools monitor students' academic and attendance progress via the Internet. The district implemented the system in September at a cost of $13.86 per student, and has a one-year contract with the company.
Switching full-on to Power School would have saved the district between roughly $20,000 and $30,000, compared to its current tracking system.
J.D. Pabis, the assistant superintendent for personnel, finance and operations, confirmed the district has experienced ongoing systemic glitches with Power School. These include flawed components designed to create report cards and let teachers enter marked grading and attendance. Lags in turnaround time for technical support and the quality of support also factored into the district's decision.
The district currently runs Power School in tandem with its former Student Information System (SIS) operation. Pabis said barring a formal update at tonight's school board meeting, school officials would receive written notification of the district's intent.
