Church hosts forum on long-term care
The First United Methodist Church in Auburn will present a seminar titled “How are you going to handle your long-term care event?”

The event will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 15, in the church's Fellowship Hall, 99 South St.

Bill Howard, a representative of Genworth Financial will be the presenter. Howard will discuss options pertaining to home care, tax advantage, Medicare and protecting assets.

Center features two CNY poets

The Sterling Nature Center's November Sunday Coffeehouse will feature two central New York preeminent poets.

Joan Loveridge-Sanbonmatsu, whose most recent work, “Imperial Valley Nisei Women, Transcending Poston,” chronicles the oral history of Japanese American women who survived internment at Poston, a World War II relocation camp in Arizona, will be joined by noted poet, Michael Jennings, whose works include “Ghost Moon” and “Silky Thefts.”

The Sunday Coffee house is scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, at the center's Jenvold Road facility.

Loveridge-Sanbonmatsu, is professor emeritus of communication studies and women's studies at SUNY Oswego.

Jennings is widely published and is the author of a recently released poetry collection

Wells presents senior art exhibit

The Wells College Art Department presents a fall senior thesis exhibit featuring paintings by December 2006 graduates Yuko Nishide and Valerie Piascik. The show opens on Wednesday, Nov. 29, in the String Room Gallery, and will run through Dec. 14.

The public is invited. An opening reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Nov. 29, offers an opportunity to meet the artists and discuss their work; light refreshments will be served.

Originally from Japan, Yuko Nishide's family now resides in Rye.

Valerie Piascik of Weedsport transferred from Cayuga Community College, knowing she wanted to study art at Wells.

GIS Day open house to be held at CCC

A “GIS Day” Open House, hosted by Cayuga Community College and the Institute for the Application of Geospatial Technology (IAGT), will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Nov. 15, at the James T. Walsh Regional Economic Center on the college's Auburn campus. All are welcome.

Cayuga Community College offers a degree program in GIS that can lead to a variety of new careers, and at the open house, professionals in a variety of those fields will demonstrate how they apply GIS to projects that benefit the community. In addition, Robert Brower, CEO of IAGT, will speak on careers that utilize GIS.
