Two Cents

The new ambulance has a little way to go to compete with Rural Metro as far as response time to injuries.
Wake up Board of Elections. If you don't correct the poll book and your procedures, you not only will not have inspectors, you will lose voters.

We have the worst drivers in Auburn! With no warning, they pull right out in front of you, back up without even looking.

I would like to thank all of the various candidates of this year's elections for the abundant amount of “flyers” that they have sent to me in the mail. With the high cost of fuel oil, now I will be sure to stay nice and warm this winter!

I got a good belly laugh from the Two Cents caller who called in and said that witches should stop bashing Christians, as if this has ever been a problem. Do the words Salem, Mass., mean anything to you?

To the people who elected Hevesi back into office - what were you thinking? He has “mistakenly” used our money for personal use and you still trust him?

Sheriff's reponsibility? wrote on Nov 10, 2006 9:29 PM:

" I am wondering why people think it's the responsibility of the sheriff to teach kids to drive. When I went to school there was a driver ed program, and there still is. As far as I know, this program is up to the district taxpayers to support or not support, not the sheriff. The responsibility ultimately lies on the parents. They need to decide if their child is ready to drive, then teach them, send them to driving school, or support a school sponsored driver ed program. "

" "That attitude is why we have young adults who can't balance a checkbook, fill out a government form " So they havent learned these skills yet so lets teach them to drive. If they cant add they will never have a car anyway ! "

" Just wondering if Sheriff-elect Gould will be making any changes in present conditions at the County Jail when he takes office. It is presently a virtual ‘cesspool’ of Civil Rights violations that the outgoing Sheriff and his jail’s ‘paramilitary’ management obviously took great pride in keeping under the ACLU’s radar. "

Bad Driving in Auburn wrote on Nov 10, 2006 2:32 PM:

" Yes, Boston is worse -- worst city in which I've ever driven -- but there are a LOT more drivers. Auburn has horrendous drivers for the size of the town, inexcusable in a city this size. Duh-oh, some brilliant argument against drivers ed -- kids should only learn school stuff in school. That attitude is why we have young adults who can't balance a checkbook, fill out a government form OR DRIVE SAFELY SO THEY AREN'T RISKING **MY** NECK AS WELL AS THEIR OWN!!! As many of their parents are just as bad drivers and I sure don't want the kids learning from the parents only. For ALL of our safety, put Drivers Ed --manadatory-- back in all our schools. Meanwhile, go visit the Gone4Ever exhibit and see if that doesn't give you a new perspective on the issue. I sure hope our Sheriff-elect's friends, who have been so vocal here, are giving him a buzz and telling him to listen to what the people have to say about Drivers Ed in the schools here in these forums. "

Auburn YOURE NOT ALONE...better yet, you dont even have it that bad!!! wrote on Nov 10, 2006 1:38 PM:

" You folks in Auburn have it EASY when it comes to bad driving - you all should try living in major cities like Los Angeles or Boston! in BOSTON, they are the absolute WORST! When youre on the interstate, drivers will pull right into your lane (mind you traffic is going @ an average 70mph) without even signaling or looking to see if the lane is open! Every DAY (YES, EVERY SINGLE DAY) there are several accidents on all of the major road ways in the greater Boston area - which cause major congestion and much stress for drivers! I miss the days when it would only take me 5min to get anywhere in Auburn.....these days, my life (in terms of daily travels) is scheduled around the morning and evening commute nightmares! "

" For those who hoped that Outhouse would of won the election, consider this. When you are the victim of a crime the Sheriff does not show up at your home, his discruntled employees do, do you really want that customer service? For those Outhouse supporters-shame on you. "

Parking Plan wrote on Nov 9, 2006 5:24 PM:

" I think the parking program is an excellent idea. If they haven't the money for a full drivers ed program in this year's budget, then at least let them weed out bad drivers in their own parking lot. Every little bit helps -- and maybe it will prevent damage and injury -- or worse. An awful lot of local kids are dead lately in car accidents. Somebody is full of some misplaced resentment accusing people who are trying to prevent deaths of "playing god" -- guess what, kid? A school can set any rules it wants, within reason -- it's not a democracy in a school, and a good thing too. Having taught briefly in the past, I can tell you it's no easy trick keeping a classroom of hormonal teenagers under control -- and a school needs every angle it can get to keep order and safety. "

Poor choice. wrote on Nov 9, 2006 3:39 PM:

" Who is trying to play god with this driver program where you have to take it so you can park in the school parking lot? The State inspectors already said they qualify when they tested them and granted them a license. They do this for a livng. Stop harrassing the kids who want to drive to school. They have already passed their test. Focus on the the kids who don't have their license and the kids who are able to drive all night like a mad man because their parents have no idea where they are at. "

AHS student wrote on Nov 9, 2006 2:56 PM:

" Auburn High School is now having a special "class" that is mandatory for all students who wish to park in the Student Parking Lot next year - in other words, those who want to drive to school have to pass this class. It will be proctored by the SROs. There are too many of my fellow classmates who drive to school yet are very bad drivers. I hope this program will be efficient in the place of drivers' ed. "

"

Get the message through wrote on Nov 9, 2006 2:45 PM:

" So, how does the public get together to send a message to the Sheriff-elect about how critically important it is to have formal drivers ed taught by professionals available to all families, free of charge, through the schools, for every new driver in New York State? Does he have an office where we can send letters? Can we circulate a petition and deliver it? How do we impress upon him that this is no joke, kids are dying and Auburn has a reputation for the worst drivers in any small city in the state? "

Round 2 wrote on Nov 9, 2006 11:59 AM:

" Yes, Auburn does have the worst drivers. All the more reason to make drivers ed a requirement in all of our high schools so this can be taught by professionals. Our new sheriff-elect thinks parents should teach their kids to drive. So, Auburn, be prepared for more "worst drivers", as today's parents are too busy to bother. "
