Two teenage boys were arrested Tuesday by the Auburn Police Department on charges they broke into two Columbus Street, Auburn, businesses last weekend.
A cash register, two plasma televisions and a candy machine were stolen during an early Saturday morning burglary at the Auburn Diner at 64 Columbus St., police said. Police recovered the register and the candy machine. The register and candy machine were found submerged in a nearby stream. The televisions have not yet been recovered.

Carovail Inc., at 53 Columbus St., also was broken into Saturday morning sometime between 3 and 4 a.m. A candy machine was damaged and two paint cans were stolen from a new stockpile of paint at the business, police said. Carovail repairs farm equipment and fertilizes farmers' fields.

The paint cans were found abandoned on the Auburn Diner lot, police said. The paint was used to vandalize a fence on the lot. “Moose,” “Stan” and swear words were written on the fence, located next to a garbage container on the lot.

Paul Metler, 16, of Auburn, and Martin Short, 17, of Auburn, have been charged with two felony charges of third-degree burglary and other larceny and criminal mischief charges, police said. Other boys are suspected in the burglaries and will be arrested, they said.

The boys were caught on a security videotape at Carovail, police said. Patrol officers were able to tentatively identify some of them, which helped APD develop the burglary suspects, they said.

" This is the worst piece of journalism ever written. It reads like a subway train full of tourette's patients whose hands are duct-taped to the emergency brakes. Also, I think the author needs to look up the term "inverted pyramid style". It's on the internet somewhere, or maybe in his college textbook. Now's the time to take the shrink-wrap off. "

" I worked for Steve Bianco during the rebuilding of the Auburn Diner. I can't begin to tell you how hard he worked to bring it back to life. I agree with Donna, parade these idiots up and down the city streets wearing signs. What do they have to be so angry about? After all, they don't have to live by any set of rules. Enlist them in the Army and send them to Iraq! "

" It's so unfortunate that our teens feel such a great need to do damage to some one else's property . When this sort of thing happens they need to feel the back lash of their destructive behavior. How it must greive their parents & other family members. They should do community service on the site in which they damaged. To help with repairs & what restoration they can. On top of that why not do as another Judge did, make them wear a sign in front of these business's saying they are responsible for the damage. Our children have become so self centered & disrespectful until it's not even funny. Television or video games do not help. "
