" There is much to be learned from Ted Haggard's downfall as an evangelical Christian...it is my hope that evangelical Christians will be the first to learn it. Human sexual orientation (not to be confused with human sexual behaviour), as it is innate, cannot be altered...not even by a belief system which condemns it. Haggard has himself experienced that which 'closeted' homosexuals have for eons...condemnation by family, friends, community members, and, most sadly, the fear of condemnation by their God. We are what we are...made by God; loved by God. As much as I am tempted to lash out at the religious right (as it has done to me all of my life!), I am finding as I write this that there is warmth in my heart for Haggard. It is my sincere hope that he finds peace...peace with the God whose reprisal he unnecessarily fears. "
