SPENCER - Sean Driscoll provided the eventual game-winning goal midway through the second half, giving Southern Cayuga a 2-1 victory over third-seeded Spencer-Van Etten in a Section IV, Class C quarterfinal boys soccer game on Friday.
After Driscoll broke the 1-1 tie, the Chiefs defense stepped up and preserved the lead.

“Our defense hung back and did a good job denying a talented team,” Southern Cayuga coach Terry Underwood said.

Derrick Rocker had a large part in that. The senior locked down S-VE's top scorer.

Driscoll also scored the Chiefs' other goal, off a Giacomo Fioriami pass seven minutes into the second half.

Tyler Hilliard had six saves.

Southern Cayuga (12-4-3) plays at No. 2 Elmira Notre Dame in the semifinals Tuesday.
