HIT: Seward House Executive Director Peter Wisbey has been appointed to a commission to help plan events marking the 200th anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln.
As part of a national commemoration in 2009, New York's commission will plan events, offer seminars on Lincoln and create traveling exhibits.
Auburn, of course, already has a connection to Lincoln in that Auburn native William Seward was Lincoln's secretary of state.
MISS: A 60-year-old man pleaded guilty in Cayuga County Court this week to having sexual contact with two children.
The families can't be blamed here - most predators are adept at hiding their crimes - but this case should remind parents to be vigilant about who they trust to watch their children.
HIT: The Auburn High School football team earned the school's first post-season victory in a first-round Section III playoff game against Henninger.
And this wasn't just any win - the Maroons were trailing by 20 points with 8 minutes and 15 seconds left in the fourth quarter before coming back to win 47-40.
“It's been a wild season,” Auburn coach Dave Moskov said. And it isn't over yet.
Auburn will play Fayetteville-Manlius at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Cicero-North Syracuse field.
HIT: Auburn's Seymour Public Library continues to be a strong proponent of literacy and education in the greater community.
This week's Cayuga Reads program featured a discussion on a book - but more importantly, important issues raised in the book.
A lecture and discussion based on Barbara Ehrenreich's book “Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting by in America,” was chosen because the issue of America's working poor affects millions of people - many right here in the local area.
Cayuga Reads brings together several county agencies and educators and might make a real difference in people's lives.
