MEXICO - The Skaneateles girls swimming team placed first in less than half of the 12 events, but swam well enough in every event to beat Mexico 94-86 on Thursday.
The Lakers placed first in three individual events as Kiley Becker won the 50 freestyle (27.09), Britton Weber took the 100 freestyle (1:01.73) and Kelly Dove was first in the diving event (145.90). Meg Clary came in second in the 100 backstroke by a fraction of a second (1:11.48), but still broke the school record in the event.

Behind Jackie Thompson, Emma Hueber, Maddie Halstead and Becker, the Lakers placed first in the 200 freestyle relay (1:51.50). Kate Menapace, Hueber, Halstead and Weber won the 400 freestyle relay for the team (4:07.12).

The win boosts Skaneateles' record to an unprecedented 6-2 and they host Cortland on Monday.

“This was a great win for the Lakers,” Skaneateles coach Jill King said. “The team is very strong and deep, which makes it possible for us to beat teams like Mexico. The girls are working well together as a team right now and hopefully, that will help them to bring home their second sectional championship.”
