The Citizen nonchalantly reported that dealing with agricultural issues will be something new for the new county planner. We need to replace our planners, and the legislators who put them there, with people who aren't ignorant about our No. 1 industry and the thing most of our real estate is used for.
There is so much opposition to replacing natural grass with a turf field at either Holland Stadium or the practice field at AHS. Why not then put the money to better use by ripping out the obsolete concrete seats at Holland Stadium and replacing them with regular bleachers on both sides of the field so that everyone can have a decent view of the game and not just from the one end zone.

Auburn High School remains on the list of “schools in need of improvement.” I believe that pertained to math and English not athletic fields.

In response to Brendan McGrath's article in last week's paper: Mr. McGrath neglected to tell people that the average daily census of Auburn Memorial Hospital is somewhere between 35 and 40 patients. For this we have added new administrative positions including a vice president of patient services as well as an assistant director of nursing, and we still have our director of nursing.

As Rome burned, Nero played a fiddle. As Auburn falls into disarray, Mayor Lattimore just abstains.

" Isn't it just amazing that after such a horrendous act of violence that took place in Nickel Mines, Pa., the Amish community forgives........... "

" So...The mayor and a council member get in a fight, it is talked about for a while and it goes away. A Little League Board president pleads guilty and an order of protection is filed, will Auburn talk about it for a while and let this go away too? Lets do what is right for the future generations of Auburnians, get people out of office whose decisions, behaviors and actions need to be interpreted for intent. Loss of control is loss of control. Lets use this as a lesson for our children- violence does not pay and is not a solution!! "

" You'd have to be a complete moron to spend that kinda money to switch to fake grass. There's too many things to list where the money would be better spent and I can't think of one advantage that makes the fake grass even remotely sound like a good investment. Tax revenue the city collects should be spent on things that will bring a return to the taxpayers. Investing in restoring and cleaning up Historic Auburn would raise homeowners property values. Then, when the beauty of your city attracts more people and businesses, the city tax revenue will increase and you can put in your fake grass. This is how properly run, small, historic cities thrive. Just look at Skaneateles. "

" I'd like to see someone objective and willing to actually monitor and apply the law with regards to several agricultural matters, not the least of which is the overspreading of manure which gets into the water supply of every home with an older dug well and also into the lake water. (I don't really care about the smell -- that only bothers suburban transplants -- but water is a life essential). If you put a farmer with the time to serve in an office (i.e. a big CAFO-type farmer who doesn't do much hands-on himself -- doesn't actually FARM himself) in such a position, what's the use? You need a watchdog in the henhouse, not a fox. We've got too much of that already. So, no, the person in the planner position should not be ignorant, but nor should s/he have vested interests in making decisions one way or the other. "

I want a new car and home wrote on Oct 4, 2006 11:42 AM:

" I want a new car and a new home, but I want to Auburn City taxpayers to pay for it. I am the only one who will use the car and home; again I want the taxpayers to pay for it. The new car and home will make me feel better and I might be a better person. Seriously, this is the same idea for the tuft issue. Only a select few will use the tuft, and they are not even taxpayers. Yes, their parents are but not them. They should not be allowed to choose what and what not us taxpayers will pay for. The tuft is a luxury not a necessity. A better education is money better spent. The majority of us taxpayer will not use the tuft so please vote NO on the proposition coming up. Another thing, has anybody thought on how to clean the bird, dog, and other animal waste for the Turf. Natural grass recycles it. "
