I have read Judy Ducayne's column concerning gay marriage and Karl Logan's letter. As for the woman who “married” the dolphin - that was just extreme.
I write as a Christian who believes the Bible is the inspired word of God and His truth to mankind. I believe that if Jesus were here, he would treat homosexuals with love and respect, but He would tell the truth.
The Bible lists many kinds of sexual sin that strongly tempt people. Homosexuality is referred to in Genesis, chapter 19: Leviticus 18:22; 20:13; Romans 1:26, 27; and I Corinthians 6:9.
I am opposed to gay marriage because:
€ Marriage was ordained by God and reinforced by nature. For 5,000 years, in every civilization on earth, marriage has been between a man and a woman - until recently.
€ It would weaken traditional marriage. If activist judges are allowed to use the “equal rights” section of the Constitution to redefine the meaning of marriage to include same-sex couples, why can't Mormons use the same argument to legalize polygamy? If the meaning of marriage can be changed, why not legalize bigamy?
€ Gay marriage would hurt children the most. Research consistently shows that boys and girls do best in a stable environment with both a mother and father who love them. Adoption laws and laws for foster homes would change. A married man and woman could not be favored over a same sex couple.
School textbooks would be rewritten to show homosexuals in a favorable way.
€ It would adversely affect our health care system and also faith-based organizations.
€ The majority of Americans do not want gay marriage legalized. People in 20 states have voted on Defense of Marriage Acts. In every state a large majority has voted to keep marriage between one man and one woman.
