Pick pink ice cream, ‘Lick for a Cure'
The Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund of Central New York, Inc. is hosting its first “Lick for a Cure,” during the month of October at the Red & White Creamery Cafe, 110 E. Main St. in Elbridge
You can help lick cancer by having a pink ice cream cone. The cafe will donate 25 percent of the profits from the sale of any treat made with pink ice cream to breast cancer research.
Coffee 'N Cream to hold BBQ Bonanza
Coffee 'N Cream in Moravia will be offering a BBQ Bonanza to close out the barbecue season. Plates of barbecue pork, beef and chicken with sides of coleslaw and Mexican bean salad will be served for either take-out or eating in. The plates, which hold enough food for two people, will be available at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, at the store on 165 N. Main St. in Moravia. Pre-orders are encouraged, as plates are limited.
Pre-order price is $14 and day-of orders will cost $16. To pre-order, call 497-2705.
LaFayette Festival to offer pies, ciders
The LaFayette Apple Festival will be serving a variety of apples, apple ciders and apple pies. Patrons can watch cider being pressed and apple cider doughnuts, dumplings and turnovers being made. Competitions will include an apple-pie-baking contest and a scarecrow-design contest. Festival hours will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Festival grounds can be found by taking Route 20 to Tully Farms Road and following signs to the parking areas.
Admission is $4 and advance tickets can be purchased at the McDonald's in LaFayette for $3. Pets will not be permitted.

Public Theater hosts chili cook-off
The Auburn Public Theater will hold a chili cook-off at 11 a.m. Saturday, in the theater lounge at 108 Genesee St. The winner will be chosen at 2 p.m. The prize for the tastiest chili will be four tickets to a show of the winner's choosing at the theater.

King Ferry Winery to hold festival
The King Ferry Wine Festival will offer wine samples, desserts and tours, where festival-goers can see firsthand the pressing of grapes.
Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14 and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15. Live music will be provided on Sunday. The King Ferry Winery is located at 658 Lake Road in King Ferry. Admission is free. For more information, call 364-5100.

The Lock 52 Historical Society of Port Byron will be hosting a spaghetti supper to raise money for much-needed repairs to the historical house located at 73 Pine St. The dinner will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Federated Church on 205 N. Main St.
Tickets are $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, $3 for children age 6-12 and no charge for children 5 and under. For more information, call 776-4027.
Local CROP walks seek volunteers
