AUBURN - Nikki Szczepanski and the Auburn girls soccer team didn't waste any time on Friday. After 13 seconds of play, Szczepanski netted the first goal of the game, and Carrie Lawton added another at the seven-minute mark to lead the Maroons over West Genesee, 2-1.
Virginia Porten made 10 stops, and Abby Gamba, Lauren Dunster and Shannon McCormick held strong on defense. Laura Taylor and Marissa Slayton had outstanding games at midfield, and Szczepanski added an assist.
Auburn (10-1) plays at Fayetteville-Manlius Tuesday.
Lansing 4, Union Springs 1
Kate Stolz scored the lone goal for the Wolves, and Michaela Hares had the assist. Goalie Deven Gary had eight saves, and Danielle Lyndaker and Monica Sacco played well on defense.
Union Springs falls to 6-4.
GIRLS SWIMMING
Auburn 97, Utica-Proctor 72
For the first time in five years, the Maroons competed two divers. Ashley Fulks placed second (130.1) and Courtney Samartan took fourth (101.7). Janna Fiermonte, Erica Piedmonte, Laura Iwanicki and Meghan McNamara placed first in the 200 medley relay (2:17.46), Kelsey Roe won the 200 individual medley and earned a personal best time (2:30.88) and Kelsey Roe was first in the 50 freestyle (28.94).
Kristin Cunningham won the 50 freestyle (28.94), Fiermonte placed first in the 100 butterfly (1:13.61) and Ashley King took the 100 freestyle (1:01.97). Tracey Miller qualified for sectionals in the 500 freestyle with her time (6:14.01). Cunningham, Roe, Samartan and Candice Elliot won the 200 freestyle relay (1:58.11) and Allison White took first in the 100 backstroke (1:21.58). Piedmonte took second in the 200 freestyle, but earned a personal best time as well (2:23.39).
The Maroons (4-1) host Nottingham on Wednesday.

The team of Erin Weber, Laura Heslop, and Bethany and Rebekah Ortquist (2:07.10) took first in the 200 meter relay with teammates Kaitlain Rejman, Lisa Stauderman, Thea Rejman and Carly May (2:22.29) right behind in second to lead the Chiefs to a big homecoming victory over Edison. Elizabeth Tyrrell (2:36.04) took second in the 200 meter freestyle.
Stephanie Morse (2:31.75) took first in the 200 individual medley. In the 50 free Rebekah Ortquist (29.66) took first with teammate Rose Mandel (30.56) in second. Thea Rejman (1:13.97) took first in the 100 fly. Carol Ryerson (1:05.35) took first in the 100 free with teammate Lindsey Doeing (1:13.28) in second. Carly Pearson (6:30.25) took second in the 500 free. Elizabeth Tyrrell, Morse, Rebekah Ortquist and Bethany Ortquist took first in the 200 free relay. Erin Weber (1:12.81) won the 100 backstroke with Kaitlain Rejman (1:20.63) in second.
In the 100 breaststroke Laura Heslop (1:19.06) took first with Abigail Tyrrell (1.32.97) in second. In the 400 free relay Elizabeth Tyrrell, Carly Pearson, Rebekah Ortquist and Bethany Ortquist (4:20.06) took first with teammates Thea Rejman, Carol Ryerson, Carly May and Kaitlain Rejman (4:41.97) took second.
Southern Cayuga (4-3) swims at Watkins Glen Tuesday.

Brian Walker, Bob Dushatinski and Ryan Gleason each shot 40 at Highland Golf Club to lead Auburn to a two-stroke win. Ryan May and C.J. Shaw each shot 41, while Sean Hogan and John Poleski shot 42. Auburn (14-2, 4-0) plays Central Square Monday.

Southern Cayuga 3, Union Springs 2 (20-25, 25-12, 14-25, 25-18, 25-21)
Julie Hewitt had seven aces, three assists and three kills to lead the Chiefs.
Carissa Wheeler had five kills, two blocks and an assist, while Jaci Stanton had two blocks.
For the Wolves, Beth Brantner had nine aces and a kill, Kendra Middleton had two aces, six kills and a block while Jamie Pearce and Emilie Salato each had an ace, two kills and an assist.
Southern Cayuga (3-3) travels to Groton Monday, and Union Springs (2-7) hosts Newfield Tuesday.
