As a retired officer of the Cayuga County Sheriff's Department, I feel that good leadership is a big help to professionalism, and they do not have good leadership. I've worked with those people for years and they are very professional.
Why is Guy Cosentino so negative in his columns about Auburn Memorial Hospital? Comments like “can things be turned around” aren't very encouraging.

It was nice to hear about the teenager, Ben, who was so helpful to the woman who was having a medical problem. Good job, Ben!

We don't need another Cuomo in Albany. One was by far and away enough.

If people with patriotic tattoos are such psychotic, unprofessional, worthless deviates, why did the Cayuga County Sheriff's Department hire them anyway? Grow up and get a life.

After reading and carefully considering the pros and cons of restaurant tipping, I've come to the conclusion that those who should receive tips are the customers, because they are the most deserving. After all, without them there wouldn't be any restaurants.

" Halloween isn't an 'evil' time; I'm a senior in high school and a strong believer in christianity and I can't wait to go trick- or treating! I may be a little old but, who cares? "

" Yes, Halloween truly is an evil time-children carving pumpkins, dressing in costumes of their favorite cartoon characters, and saying 'please'and 'thank you' to total strangers passing out candy-it's blasphemy! "

" Why does my son have to use 12 year old textbooks in Auburn Schools, but may play on brand new astroturf. Seems the school administration and board of education have their priorities mixed up. Say "no" to all school propositions next Tuesday, Oct. 17th. Buy some new books! "

Barb wrote on Oct 12, 2006 12:48 AM:

" When the school administrators have to make special sales pitches for the ridiculous school astro turf to the senior citizens at Schwartz, Boyle, and Stryker homes, it shows you how desperate they are to sell something that is not necessary. Slick salesmen. VOTE "NO" Tuesday, October 17th at Seward elementary school on Metcalf Avenue to reduce your school taxes. "

" It took 5 years to come up with a downtown revitalization plan that would leave 2/3 of the old, shoddy, uneven, and mismatched sidewalks intact and also included a $30,000 fountain which we could not afford to turn on in the first place????? A loud THANK YOU!! goes out to the two Councilors who voted "NO" in order to "DO IT RIGHT AND COMPLETELY" instead of spending money on a half-complete, half-designed, and half-hazard planning department dreamscape that, obviously, no one reviewed before putting them out to bid!!!! "

" In response to Jerry Morgan's letter dated 9/24/06,what is acceptable to you? What would you like these kids to do? Commit mischief to ensure job security for you? Nothing is free. If you want nice - you gotta pay or you'll lose it (sound familiar?). Hopefully, only those that voted YES for your council campaign will vote NO on the propositions. Good Day! "

" wish I had a camera Saturday night at about 7:00 for a classic photo of about 15 young high school boys walking down Lake Ave., each dressed in the standard khaki pants and untucked blue oxford shirt, pushing and tripping over each other on their way to the Homecoming Dance at AHS. Another traditional right-of-passage in Auburn and the sight of them was heartwarming. "

" I believe it is wonderful that schools brought back drivers ed. Many parents do not have the patience, the gas money or even a car to teach their child proper driving skills. All kids need to have a license, what if an emergency came up, it is better to be with than without. L. "

" Dear Common Cents, (or lack of) I am aware of how the board functions. However, I am aware also that this board of education believes anything and everything put in front of them by John Plume is gospel. As for mis information, would you please tell everyone what mis information I have been spreading? Is it the $500,000 concession stand? Or the $60,000 press box to call the games, or maybe it is the $42,000 to aim the lights at EMS. What ever it is please set the record straight. Remember folks, on October 17th you can only vote at one location, Seward Elementary School. PLease Vote no and sent the propositions back to the drawing board "

" Frequently the same questions regarding the "state of Auburn" are directed towards the City Administration which generally go unanswered. I would suggest that Admin. create a "question/answer" column in the Citizen that would answer such questions as; "why is it taking so long to resurface Howard St. and to start renovating East Genesee St?" "

FDH wrote on Sep 24, 2006 8:12 PM:

A waitress wrote on Sep 24, 2006 12:25 PM:

" I love the food service industry and am fortunate to work in a wonderful local restaurant a few nights a week. I work full time during the day also and waitress part time because I LIKE IT. Mr. No-tip should be aware that the hourly wage that servers make is less than $4.00 per hour and we depend on our tips to elevate that miniscule hourly wage to minimum wage standards. We pride ourselves on being able to pleasantly converse with you, our customer, see to it that your dining experience is enjoyable and manage any problems that come up during a meal that you are spending YOUR hard earned money on. We respect our patrons and in return, desire the same. Many of our local restaurants have derived their reputations not just from the excellent food they serve but from the professional level of service staff they employ. So Mr. NO TIP, check your facts before you spew and have some respect for an industry that caters to your needs. Or stay home and order pizza. "

" Budgets pass...hmmmm, doesn't the community vote? If the "majority" were dissatisfied the budgets would not pass. Since budgets are passing, and referendums as well...what does that say about Jerry's view? "

" With a little research, those who constantly take shots at individuals on the school board would realize that individuals have no power. It is only when all members of a board are together in public that the board has power. So wake up, do you homework and stop spewing mis-information. "

Jamie Prouten wrote on Sep 24, 2006 9:40 AM:

" I have worked in the restaurant business for over ten years now. On sunday I read a article about some one saying that the customer deserves the tip. That person is insane. The situations that some waiters and waitresses have to deal with are insane and stressful. Most of the time by idiots like the person who wrote that blurb. So next time that person is in a restaurant, use you head and don't go in the first place, because you cheap. "
