The board of education has mailed an excellent newsletter to voters on the proposed capital projects. I urge everyone to read it carefully before voting.
Michael Reagan's column in the Saturday Citizen is his best ever and a must read. The free world had better learn quickly to deal with Islam or it will be to late.

Southern Springs is the combination of Southern Cayuga and Union Springs schools. Duh!

More benches need to be set up for the TomatoFest. There are not enough places to sit and this is especially hard for senior citizens.

Ford Motor Co. in trouble? Let's import more cars and then those so-called Americans who purchase them can slap flags (probably also imported) on their cars to let everyone know they are proud citizens.

A political party rends a government into two distinct people and makes greater strangers and more adverse to one another than if they were actually two different nations.

We are well into our third month of dust, mud and rocks ricocheting onto our lawns and our sidewalks. Can anyone give us an explanation as to why Howard Street has been forgotten other than to keep passing the buck?

Thank you to your staff for the wonderful Web site you have set up. Your guestbook is a wonderful tool, and the design and usage was very friendly and warm. Thank you for giving us “Citizens” a useful (and free) outlet.

Why would David Gould want to be sheriff, because of the way the current sheriff is treated by his men? The answer is the current sheriff, Charles Robert Outhouse, treats his men bad and does anything he wants, so his men want a new boss.

The current sheriff is simply being treated by his employees like he treats them: no respect. What he never seems to understand is that you earn your employees' respect, not demand it through fear of some form of retaliation.

Does the city of Auburn really own the house on the corner of Washington and Orchard streets? How about listing all the homes that the city of Auburn owns, for the taxpayers of Auburn.

It pays good attention to watch these political ads by our glorious candidates, especially Ray Meier's ad about Rome Labs, which you can see right in the corner it says dramatization. Why can't these candidates just use the actual images instead of trying to make it seem like they do more than what they've done?

Do you suppose that the persons responsible for sending STAR rebate checks to those who don't even pay taxes to begin with are the same persons that disperse huge ungodly income tax refunds to those who don't work or pay into the system to begin with - unbelievable! As a hard working taxpayer, I think someone better wake up and smell the coffee soon!

To the person it “doesn't make sense” to regarding seniors and larger rebate checks, I'm a senior and don't have kids in school, yet I pay school taxes - “does that make sense?” It does because some seniors paid school taxes when I was in school and when you are a senior, you will get a break too, along with all the aches and pains of the “golden years” and the sky-high prices on a fixed income.

To the person who says that seniors pay very little school tax and receive the advanced STAR exemption: Why then am I senior paying school taxes of $1,100 this year, plus the other taxes with no STAR exemptions - i.e. city tax of over $1,400 and county tax of over $1,000, totaling approximately $3,500 per year and the rebate check received was not that great, especially after taxes and living on a fixed income? Maybe this will make sense to him or her!

Tim Lattimore and the Auburn city council should quit playing games and hire a permanent chief for the fire department. A public safety director is not necessary in a community of our size.

Can't stop smoking? Where there's a will, there's a way.

What is a Fixed Income? wrote on Sep 27, 2006 8:04 AM:

" Contractors and many others who work for themselves have a variable income depending how much work comes in. Many hourly workers, such as waitresses or hotel clerks, may get more hours some weeks than others. Some young people with time and energy may work more than one job, which is not an option to the elderly, who may not even get an annual increase to adjust for inflation. In some businesses a worker CAN go to the boss and negotiate a higher rate of pay -- my brother is an architect and used to work in a firm where they didn't get annual raises -- instead, each employee had to decide for him- or herself to go see the boss to make a case for a pay increase. And though for all practical purposes, most people can't just change jobs for better pay, it is still technically an option when you are not yet past retirement age. Fixed is well and truly, completely, unvariably fixed and the person has no control over it -- like being on Social Security or a pension. "

" Touche to Motor City Native. I'd be glad to drive a Ford if it lasted or drove as well as my "foreign named" car. "

Fords? wrote on Sep 26, 2006 5:48 PM:

" Driving a Ford or Chevrolet does NOT mean that the car was built in the USA by American Citizens. Most people probably dont even know this. My last Chevrolet was built in Canada for God Sake AND my last Nissan was built in Smyrna Tennessee. Ahhh Chevrolet built by Canadians in a foreign country and a Nissan built by Americans in the USA. Dont let the name of your vehicle fool you. The so called American cars are not as American as you might think! "

" This would be for the "jerks, and more jerks" who do not have an obvious clue as to what they are complaining about! Most all of the "senior citizens" in this - our community have probably busted their butts all of their lives to end up on "fixed" incomes to have to still pay the stinking school taxes for which your children attend - stop whinning - you will be in those shoes soon enough. The seniors are why we are here - DUH!!! "

" Would someone please explain to me just exactly what is a "fixed" income? Don't most of us live on a fixed income since we can't demand from our bosses whatever it is we think we should be earning and we can't escape paying our bills? "

" To the person traveling Depot Road at 8:12 am Tuesday September 26, why did you not stop for the large bright yellow school bus with it's red lights flashing? How could you miss that? And how could you not hear the horn that the bus driver had to lay on to get your attention???? If you're that blind and deaf, why are you driving? Thank GOD my daughter has enough sense to not cross the road until the bus driver gives her the signal. If you weren't going so fast we could have gotten your plate number. I remember exactly what the car looks like, so I'll be looking for you every morning now. STUPID STUPID STUPID!!! "

" to the person complaining about payin 3500 dollars in taxes, i pay about 2300 dollars and my house is worth about 81000, so that makes your house worth say about 130000, maybe u should downsize for your fixed income "

Motor City Native wrote on Sep 26, 2006 10:14 AM:

" As a native Detroiter now living in upstate NY -- I don't blame anyone for not buying American cars -- if ANY car is actually fully made in America any more -- Ford may be made in Mexico while a Honda may be made in Ohio for all we know. But until American car makers start making quality cars which last and are fuel efficient as well as having a reasonable price tag, sensible people will keep on buying foreign cars. It's not a matter of patriotism, it's a matter of the quality of the product. "
