Man charged in attempted burglary
The ninth annual “Our Mothers, Our Daughters, Our Health” women's health institute through Auburn Memorial Hospital will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 14 at the Auburn Holiday Inn. Lee-Ellen Marvin, Ph.D., who teaches at Ithaca College in the Department of Speech Communication, will be the keynote speaker on the topic, “From Mother to Daughter in Stories.” The keynote address will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Attendees will also be able to attend three workshops from a selection of nine sessions taught by health care providers.

Man charged with forcible touching
An Auburn man was arrested on charges he groped a woman's breasts against her will on a public street.
Vernon L. Sweeting Jr., 47, of 61 Osborne St., was arrested Saturday on a warrant related to a Sept. 7 incident on Barber Street. Sweeting was charged by the Auburn Police Department with the misdemeanor of forcible touching and the violation of second-degree harassment.
A woman who had left a city bar after 2 a.m. that morning reported that a man made a lewd remark to her and then groped her breasts. The woman did not initially know who it was who had touched her, but an investigation later identified Sweeting, police said.
Sweeting's bail was set at $1,000 cash or bond in Auburn City Court. His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 5.

The Port Byron Central School District Board of Education will meet 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27. On the agenda, principal Shawn Bissetta will present a report on high school data, and a auditors will present a year-end financial report for the 2005-06 school year.
