Eugene Mosier, of Auburn, once participated in Civil War reenactments. Now he has formed a local group focused on discussing the war between the North and South.
Started a year ago, the group met Saturday morning at the Seward House in Auburn to hold a Civil War roundtable.

“We are a group of Civil War buffs,” Mosier said. “We all have different angles and inputs on every single battle we discuss.”

Saturday the group discussed upcoming dates for meetings, while mentioning different places individual members have visited pertaining to the Civil War.

At the last meeting, the seven-member group visited Fort Hill Cemetery in Auburn and found a new Civil War grave.

“That was our first traveling session together, but we hope to plan more in the future,” Paul McDonald said.

If group membership increases, Mosier hopes to hold a Civil War reenactment of his own in Auburn.

Auburn had the first Civil War Independent Battery in New York, Mosier said.

“Right now we meet to debate Civil War issues,” McDonald said. “We bring a war event to the table and listen to everyone's input.”

All group members are currently from Auburn but the group is open to anyone. Joining is free.

“I'm a colonial expert. I love having the opportunity to interact with other experts, I love to hear them talk,” Liisa Backus said. “I especially love the topic of historic gentlemen. Today, a lot of gentlemen still have the same persona.”

Group members meet every two months.
