Callaghan: Hevesi's legitimacy compromised
ALBANY - Democratic State Comptroller Alan Hevesi's “legitimacy as a public watchdog has been seriously compromised,” his Republican challenger said Friday after the comptroller's admission he has not reimbursed the state for having his wife driven around by one of his state employees.
“We really should have a fiscal watchdog who understands that this is wrong and behaves accordingly,” former Saratoga County Treasurer Christopher Callaghan said in a statement issued by his campaign.
“There is no excuse” for Hevesi's failure to reimburse the state earlier, the comptroller's spokesman, David Neustadt, said on Friday.
