After prom panel hosts barbecue
The Weedsport Central School's class of 2008 is hosting a chicken and pork barbecue on Halloween.
They need to raise money for an After Prom Party. Tickets are advance sale only.

Burton completes West Point studies
Cadet Jon J. Burton, son of Henry and Linda Burton of Elbridge, graduated from the U.S. Military Academy on May. 27
At West Point, he concentrated his studies in law. He was commissioned a second lieutenant and will complete his officer basic course at Fort Sill, Okla.
Wells College promotes staff
Wells College history professor Michael Groth, of Aurora, has been promoted to the rank of full professor, effective with the fall 2006 semester.
Groth is an active scholar with a special interest in U.S. history, African-American history and New York state history.
Groth received an M.A. (1989) and Ph.D. (1994) in history from Binghamton University, where he wrote his dissertation on the end of slavery in the Hudson Valley. He also received a B.A. cum laude with honors in history at Williams College.
At opening convocation in late August, Wells College President Lisa Marsh Ryerson introduced the campus community to its new interim dean of the college for the 2006-07 academic year.
Dr. Leslie Miller-Bernal of Ithaca, long-time sociology professor and senior faculty member at Wells, will serve in this capacity while the college conducts a national search.
Miller-Bernal will be responsible for administering the educational policy and curriculum of Wells College. She will oversee all academic components of the college, working with the president and faculty on academic planning and programming, curricular development, and implementing strategic initiatives.
Miller-Bernal received her B.A. and M.A. at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and her Ph.D. at Cornell University. She joined the Wells faculty in 1975 and was promoted to full professor in 1991. Her husband Martin Bernal is professor emeritus at Cornell University.
Literacy Night in Elbridge
Elbridge Elementary School will be holding a fall Literacy Night from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 24. This event, presented by the Early Literacy Committee, is dedicated to exposing and encouraging young children to the importance and joy of books.
Every Jordan-Elbridge family with a pre-school age child is invited to join this fun-filled evening full of stories, activities and snacks.
J-E FOSPA program taking registrations
The Jordan Elbridge FOSPA program is accepting registrations for the spring session. FOSPA stands for Family Orientated Structured Preschool Activity and is a free education, pre-kindergarten program that extends to all eligible 4-year-olds in the Jordan-Elbridge district.
The program provides preschool children with hands-on activities that will help enhance their kindergarten readiness skills.
The sessions are taught by certified teachers and encourage parent involvement. For more information or to register, call 689-8540 or e-mail lbehm@jecsd.org.
