AUBURN - An Auburn woman admitted writing more than $5,000 in checks from a closed Auburn Community Federal Credit Union account and cashing them at Wal-Mart in Cayuga County Court Tuesday.
Lynne Elardo, also known as Lynne Elardo-Bilinski, 38, of 17 Burt Ave., Auburn, pleaded guilty in front of Judge Mark Fandrich to the felony of third-degree grand larceny regarding the theft of $5,165.

She previously pleaded guilty to charges of third-degree grand larceny and fourth-degree grand larceny.

In that case, Elardo admitted stealing a man's personal identity and opening a Bank of America credit card account and a GM MasterCard account through HSBC bank. She admitted fraudulently obtaining $13,107.22 worth of cash, goods or services on the Bank of America account and $2,754.78 worth on the GM MasterCard.

Her sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 3. Fandrich said he will determine her eligible for parole supervision through the Willard Drug Treatment program.

Also in court:

€ Brian Thompson Jr., 20, with a last known address of 182 Van Anden St., Auburn, entered a guilty plea in front of Judge Peter Corning on Sept. 13 to the felony of second-degree assault. Thompson admitted he struck Auburn Police Department Sgt. Gregory Dann April 18. A 10 3/4-inch knife was recovered from Thompson. His sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 27.

€ Motion arguments were held Tuesday in the case of Olvin Ventura, 25, with a last known address of 78 Orchard St., Auburn. Ventura and co-defendant, Miguel Caban, 44, of the same address, are accused of selling cocaine in the Auburn area and possessing 18 ounces of the drug, which police said was worth more than $50,000.

They both face the felony charges of first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree criminal possession of a narcotic drug and second-degree conspiracy.

Ventura was granted a Sandoval hearing to consider what, if any, prior criminal convictions would be allowed in a jury trial. Fandrich said a Huntley hearing wasn't needed because no statements were given by the defendants to police.

Caban's motion arguments were rescheduled.
