A man named Reynolds who keeps the lock grocery store at the canal lock at Cayuga had a narrow escape from drowning yesterday afternoon. He was crossing a footway when he slipped and fell into the canal, where he got mixed up in the dense growth of eel grass and weeds and was nearly exhausted when rescued. He weighs about 250-pounds and was rescued with great difficulty.

Gov. Thomas E. Dewey, leaving a 40-minute conference with President Truman called late today for much closer, political and military alliance among free nations in the Pacific.

West Middle has a new roof and air circulation system. It looks better than it ever did in decades. A new roof is in place at Herman Avenue. The boilers have been repaired at East Middle. Deadlines were maintained throughout the summer, allowing all our buildings to be open to staff and students for the 1996-97 school year.

Sept. 17, 2001

A vacant barn owned by Pat Merical of Route 359 was leveled by a fire Sunday afternoon. The blaze started after his 12-year-old son, Michael, and a friend lit some dry hay. Merical's property is located less than a quarter-mile from the intersection of routes 359 and 38A, near Dutch Hollow Brook.
