Cato-Meridian blanks Jordan-Elbridge

SYRACUSE - The Cato-Meridian boys soccer team came in third at the Bishop Ludden tournament after defeating Jordan-Elbridge 5-0 in the consolation round Saturday. Brandon Rubadou and Rosalio Rojo led the Blue Devils with two goals each.
Jeremy Brand scored one goal and Sean Peckham had an assist. Randy Hoyt had five saves in goal, three of them in the first half. Jon Foti and Brand were named to the All-Tournament Team.

For the Eagles, Ryan Barrigar had 10 saves in goal, five in each half.

Cato-Meridian (2-5) travels to Tully on Tuesday, while the Eagles host the Blue Devils again on Thursday.

GIRLS SOCCER

Cato-Meridian 3, Pulaski 1

CATO - Jessica Brand, Rachel VanOstrand and Erin Grant each scored a goal in the win. VanOstrand added an assist, and Amber Grader made nine saves.

On Friday, the Blue Devils shut out Hannibal 3-0. Britney Haskins, Danielle Halstead and Michelle Townsend scored, and Grader made 16 saves.

Cato-Meridian (3-2) plays Monday at Bishop Grimes.

FIELD HOCKEY

Southern Springs 4, Cato-Meridian 0

UNION SPRINGS - Michelle Myers led Southern Springs with two goals, while Stefanie Bacon and Stephanie Jakaub scored one each. Meg Sacco assisted on all four goals.

Danielle Hall was in the net for the first half and Jessica Kneaskern in the second. Kneaskern recorded the only team save for Southern Springs. The team had 10 corners and 10 shots on goal, while the Blue Devils had two corners and just one shot on goal. They had eight saves in goal.

Homer 3, Moravia 0

Despite holding possession for about 75 percent of the game, the Blue Devils couldn't cash in. All of Homer's goals came in the first half, and Homer led in penalty corners (11-7) and shots (8-7). Ellen Olszewski made six saves.

The Blue Devils play at Cato-Meridian Monday.

CROSS COUNTRY

Elmira Invitational Meet

The Auburn boys varsity cross country team placed third at the meet, with three runners placing in the top 30 out of nearly 150 runners. Chris Mason placed third (17:31), just 16 seconds behind first place. Scott Garrett took seventh (18:21), and Kes Peck finished 27th (19:45).

The girls team also fared well, finishing in seventh with two runners in the top 30. Rosie Scheibel took 18th place (23:26) and Liz Mahoney was 27th (24:19).
