Aaron Bulkley, a Port Byron native, helped the Tri-City ValleyCats stay alive Wednesday.
Bulkley homered and doubled to help the ValleyCats defeat the Staten Island Yankees 9-2 in Game 2 of the New York-Penn League championship series. The series is now tied 1-1 with the championship game being held tonight in Staten Island.
Seeing his first action of the postseason, Bulkley doubled to lead off the second and later scored to give Tri-City a 4-0 lead. He hit his third home run of the season to lead off the seventh inning.
The home run sparked a five-run inning for the ValleyCats.
Bulkley finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs, an RBI and a strikeout.
Douglas Arguello picked up the win for Tri-City in the do-or-die game. Arguello pitched five innings of relief with four strikeouts.
The ValleyCats jumped all over the Yankees in the top of the first. The first two runs scored on a walk and a wild pitch, respectively, and James Van Ostrand singled home the other.
Staten Island won the season series 2-1 and is the defending NY-P League champs.
