Timothy D. Hutchings, the teenager who died in a motor vehicle crash Saturday, died from massive head injuries, New York State Police and Auburn Police Department sources confirmed today.
The Onondaga County Medical Examiner's office conducted the autopsy this week.

Police say the driver of the vehicle, Nicholas W. Raymond, 18, of 6206 West Lake Road, Auburn, and an unidentified passenger left a critically injured Hutchings, 19, in the eastbound 2002 GMC Envoy after hitting a tree in the front yard of 2850 Sand Beach Road, Fleming. Neither Raymond nor the passenger were seriously injured.

Hutchings was found dead in the vehicle after 7 a.m. Saturday by first responders in the back seat of the sport utility vehicle. It was four hours after the accident.

Auburn police believe that Hutchings was picked up from his home shortly before the accident. They are investigating a party at 27 Evans St. at which police say that Ashley Hadden, 18, of 2158 W. Genesee St. Road, Aurelius, falsely reported the GMC Envoy stolen at 3:30 a.m. Hutchings may not have been at the party, police said.

A series of interviews with partygoers is being conducted. The Envoy is registered in the name of Hadden's father, Gary, and police said Raymond drove the vehicle often. Hadden was not in the SUV at the time of the accident, police said.

She has been charged with the misdemeanor of third-degree falsely reporting an accident. Raymond has been charged the felony of leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident along with traffic infractions.

The unidentified passenger may not have any legal liability for leaving the scene of the accident, police said.

Both Hadden and Raymond have posted bail.
