Falcon sportsmen meeting next Monday
The Falcon Sportsmen Club's monthly meeting will be 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 11, at the Falcon Sportsmen Club.

Master Gunsmith Dave Klotz will demonstrate the proper way to clean firearms after the regular business meeting.

Auburn cross country holding breakfast

There will be a Pancake Breakfast 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, at the Knights of Columbus. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children. Those under 5 years old are free.

The proceeds benefit Auburn boys and girls cross country teams. The all-you-can-eat meal features pancakes, sausage, eggs, fruit cocktail, milk, coffee, orange juice, regular toast and Red's Irish Toast.

Dedication for AHS field is Saturday

The Auburn High School varsity field hockey field will be dedicated to Betty Lacey at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9.

Betty Lacey was a longtime coach and teacher in the Auburn school district.

Just prior to the Auburn-Port Byron varsity field hockey game, there will be a brief ceremony to recognize Mrs. Lacey's accomplishments and place the sign designating it as the “Betty Lacey Field.”

Bass Pro sponsoring boating safety class

There will be a New York State Boater's Safety course from 6-10 p.m. Sept. 25-27 at Bass Pro Shops.

Each class will be limited to 30 students and there will be a $35 fee due the day of the class.

Anyone interested must pre-register at Bass Pro shops or by calling 258-2700.

Thursday volleyball league at YMCA

The YMCA co-ed volleyball league will begin at 6:45 p.m. on Thursdays starting the week of Sept. 11.

Both recreational and competitive leagues are offered.

Each team must have two females on the court, and the eight-week league includes one week of playoffs.

Hunter's safety class begins Sept. 19

There will be a New York Hunter's Safety Gun course Sept. 19, 21, and 23 at Bass Pro Shops.

The first two meetings will go from 6-9:30 p.m. The third meeting will begin at 2 p.m. and is being held at Salmon Creek Sportsmen's Club.

The course is mandatory for new hunters. Students are required to attend all three classes. Ralph Gray is teaching the course, which has a limited size. Pre-registration is required.

The class is free. Registration is at Bass Pro or call the store at 258-2700.

Jordan Alpine Classic coming Sept. 16

The annual Jordan Alpine Classic will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, on the east end of the Jordan fall festival. The 8.5-mile course goes over hills, trails, back roads and a wet creek crossing.

Walkers are also welcome. Awards are given to the top three runners in 22 age groups. Applications are available at area YMCA's, Fleet Feet in Dewitt, and at www.jordanny.com.
