Ceremony planned for Sunday's game
Weather permitting, the Auburn Doubledays will induct the first members of the Doubledays Wall of Fame today before the doubleheader against Williamsport.
Doubledays president Leo Pinckney and former New York Yankees' pitcher and pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre were selected by fans, who voted on the internet, for the honor.
“The Wall of Fame is something that we started this past offseason,” Doubledays General Manager Carl Gutelius said. “And it's something that we are going to be doing from now on. We nominate four in the player category and four in the contributor category, which is anybody from managers, front office and fans.”
Pinckney is a former New York-Penn League president for whom the field at Falcon Park is named.
Stottlemyre played for the 1962 Auburn Yankees and his 164 wins which ranks sixth on the Yankees all-time list.
Rainy days dominate season's second half
Mother Nature doesn't seem to want Auburn and Williamsport to play this season.
Saturday's Doubledays-Crosscutters thwarted doubleheader marked the third time a game between the two squads has been postponed due to a downpour.
The first two times were in Williamsport on June 27 and August 30. So far this season, the Doubledays have had four rain outs, including a home game against Brooklyn on August 19.
Fans at Falcon Park have had to endure just two rain delays this year, against Tri City (July 20) and Brooklyn (August 18).
Auburn is 3-1 in games the day after a rainout and 2-0 in rain delays at home.
Lineup change works for Campbell
Doubledays Scott Campbell has been consistent all season with a .296 batting average on 67 hits and 17 RBI, but slipping down two spots in the lineup might have made him even more productive.
Campbell had been doing a fine job in the leadoff spot for most of the season, but since he was moved to the number three spot in the lineup behind Adam Calderone and Ben Zeskind on August 23, Campbell has had four RBI on six hits. Most importantly, he has scored eight runs in that 8-1 Doubledays stretch.
In the previous 22 days in the month, Campbell still hit well, but had just two RBI and scored seven times.
The Bulkley Report
Port Byron native Aaron Bulkley continues to inch his batting average up this season after another good week at the plate with the Tri-City ValleyCats.
He upped it to .242 after three hits in as many games this week. He also a stole base, his fourth of the season, against Vermont on August 26.
The outfielder has played in 30 games this season, accumulating seven RBI on 22 hits, four doubles and two home runs.
He missed several weeks of playing time earlier this season with a staph infection in his left knee.
