BUFFALO - A youth soccer coach was arrested Tuesday on charges he sexually abused a boy over a four-year period, beginning when the child was 6 years old.
Michael Spicola, 51, surrendered at the courthouse in North Collins, a town of about 3,400 where he lives south of Buffalo, and was arraigned on four felony counts of sodomy and four misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Erie County Sheriff Timothy Howard said the now 14-year-old victim told authorities he was abused in Spicola's home at least four times from 1999 to 2001.
Spicola allegedly had contact with the victim through his role as longtime coach and founder of the Eden Boy's Soccer League, Howard said.
He is a former school bus driver for the North Collins school district.
Spicola was freed on $15,000 bond.
