Doubledays surge into second half
At 29-26, the Doubledays have reached their high water mark for the season. It's the first time the club has been three games over .500 and the first time they've been at least two games over since July 4.

With the series win over the Brooklyn Cyclones, the streaking Doubledays have won their sixth straight non-Batavia series. The Muckdogs have been a thorn in Auburn's side, winning all four games at Falcon Park and six of nine overall.

The surge is nothing new for the Doubledays, as they historically have turned up their play in the season's second half.

In fact, the 2005 Doubledays rolled to another Pinckney Division crown after accumulating a post-All-Star game record of 12-3.

Another successful Dollar Thursday

Dollar Thursday not only provided some quality deals, it also produced the largest crowd of the season.

At 3,160 fans, Falcon Park's capacity was exceeded by 360.

The Doubledays were also able to give the Dollar Thursday crowd something to cheer about for the first time this month. After losing their first two Dollar Thursday games in August by a combined score of 12-5, the Doubledays pitched their way to an impressive 2-1 victory over Brooklyn.

Auburn has another chance to post a win in front of a big crowd, as the final Dollar Thursday of the month will take place this week as the Doubledays battle Batavia.

Pitching is name of game

The Doubledays are climbing in the win column, in large part due to the team's pitching.

The staff ERA for August is 3.40 and the contributions from the starters and relievers have gotten better.

With injuries to starters Zach Dials and Shane Benson, in addition to the promotion of Hector Delgadillo, two starters have stepped in and flourished. Chris Reddout is 2-1 in four starts this month while Chase Lirette has made the transition from the bullpen to starter look easy. Lirette is 2-0 this month in three starts.

In the bullpen, Ron Lowe and Ben Harrison have been perfect in August. The two have allowed no earned runs in a combined 11 appearances.

While the team's batting average has slipped, a couple Doubledays have remained hot through the dog days of summer. All-Star Scott Campbell is batting .297 with a .366 on-base percentage and outfielder Jonathan Baksh is hitting .295 with six RBI.

The Bulkley Report

Port Byron native Aaron Bulkley did not play this previous week but maintains a .217 average with the Tri-City ValleyCats.

The outfielder has participated in 21 games and accumulated three doubles, one home run, four RBI and two stolen bases.

Bulkley missed much of the season's first half due to a staph infection of the knee.
