‘Congressional oversight' is blind leading the blind

I just love the term “congressional oversight.”
We're supposed to feel better if government operations are subject to scrutiny by this bunch of layabouts.

Consider the big one - Iraq. Most of these clowns fell in line and voted yes.

Upon finding out it was a totally unnecessary military action, they hid behind, of all things, incompetence, “if I had known then what I know now.” Admitting they hadn't a clue when they voted yes is supposed to make us feel better.

While the rest of us get the facts from the people who did know, a country halfway around the world with a population the size of New Jersey, no air force or navy or long-range missile system is supposed to be an imminent threat?

They were too busy working on their golf games to bother with people like Scott Ritter or digging down into the shallow wells of their own common sense.

So congressional oversight of torture, domestic spying, disaster preparedness, trade deals, etc., is supposed to evoke a collective “whew!” from the American public?

OK, stupid people are fun to watch sometimes, especially when they admit it.

But greedy too? Congressional salaries going up over $30,000 in the last nine years while increases for the minimum wage were shot down every time.

Increased government spending is as bad for business as higher labor costs but when it's their salaries you're talking about, stand down!

“Congressional oversight” is soon to be interchangeable with “the blind leading the blind,” or (more accurately) “the fox guarding the hen house.” What a joke “democracy” is in relation to the gaggle of crooks currently in Washington.
