Beaver Lake holds harvest festival
Heluva Good Quality Foods presents the Golden Harvest Festival 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 10 at Beaver Lake Nature Center, 8477 E. Mud Lake Road in Baldwinsville. This is one of the best ways to enjoy the harvest season with family and friends.
The celebration includes hands-on nature activities, horse-drawn hayrides, free canoeing, fresh doughnuts, live animal demonstrations, nature hikes and games. A lineup of live music and entertainment includes Los Blancos, The Westcott Jugsuckers, the Magic of Virgil, Two-A Juggling Act, Elisa Korenne, Dan Duggan and a Rochester based Ska band, Mrs. Skannotto. Ska is fast paced, high energy music.
Bring a Heluva Good dip lid and receive $1 off the $5 admission fee for adults. Children 6 to 17 are admitted for $1.
Alumni association offers trip to Boston
The Auburn/Cayuga Community College Alumni Association is offers a weekend trip to Boston on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 23 and 24.
The deluxe motorcoach will depart from the college's Auburn campus at 6:30 a.m. and arrive in downtown Boston at about noon. Travelers will be free to spend the afternoon touring the city's historic landmarks, shops, and cultural offerings on foot or by duck boat, harbor cruise, or trolley.
A group reservation for Saturday evening at the Fire and Ice Restaurant features a buffet of cooked-to-order dinner dishes.
Sunday includes a morning trip to the John F. Kennedy Library, then free time until the bus departs at 3:30 p.m. for arrival in Auburn at approximately 9:30 p.m. The cost is $169 per person, double-occupancy.

Hospice to host book discussion
Hospice of the Finger Lakes, 1130 Corporate Drive, will sponsor a book discussion group 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 14. The discussion group will continue weekly through Oct. 12.
The book chosen for the discussion is “A Grief Observed” by C. S. Lewis. The group will discuss Lewis' thoughts and struggles as he came to terms with the death of his wife.
