Manager interviews almost finished
By Aug. 30, the last interview for the first Cayuga County manager position will be completed.
The position should be filled by early September, said Faye Hatfield, Civil Service Commission Executive secretary.
Since July, three remaining candidates have gone through a series of separate interviews. Once a candidate is chosen, Qualification Committee members must discuss benefits and go over paperwork, Hatfield said.
A county manager will act as an administrative assistant to the chairman of the Cayuga County Legislature.
Child Care Council to host raffle night
The Child Care Council of the Finger Lakes is asking area residents to come and join the fun at the Council's Raffle Night and the Auburn Doubledays baseball game on Thursday, Aug. 24.
Three diverse gift baskets will be raffled off between innings.
Tickets for the raffle will be available at the gate on the night of the event.
Raffle tickets are $1 each, $5 for 6 or $10 for an arms length. All proceeds from the raffle will go to help the Child Care Council with its educational programs.
Red Cross putting on blood drive
The American Red Cross Blood Services, New York-Penn Region, will host a special Communities That Care blood drive from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, at the Auburn Public Theater, 108 Genesee St., downtown Auburn.
The Communities That Care blood drive is a new Red Cross initiative providing the opportunity for various community groups to come together for a common, large blood drive.
Through the support of many community agencies, the American Red Cross collected more than 4,000 units of blood in Cayuga County last year.
Nationally, only five percent of the eligible public donates blood, but in this community, eight percent of those eligible give blood, making it a true community that cares.
The Red Cross hopes to collect 200 units of blood at this drive.
All current eligible and new donors are asked to call 252-9596 or visit www.donatebloodnow.org to schedule an appointment.
Blood donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health. In New York, 16 year olds may donate blood provided they bring an original signed parental consent form.
The consent form can be found at www.donatebloodnow.org/16. Identification is required at the time of donation.
Religious program being held Monday
The public is invited to a free program at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, designed to promote communication and understanding among Jews, Christians and Muslims. “Coming Together: A Conversation Among Jews, Christians and Muslims” will be held at the Temple B'Nai Israel, 10 John Smith Ave., off Genesee Street just east of Auburn.
The audience will listen in on a conversation among six local faith leaders: Elaine Cohen and Herb Sussman from Temple B'Nai Israel; the Rev. Philip Windsor from Westminster Presbyterian Church; the Rev. Frank Lioi from St. Mary's Church; Imam Taqi'uddin Ahmed; and Imam 'Abdur Rahim Muhammed.
Following the conversation, the audience will be invited to ask questions, moderated by the Rev. Ken Mochel.
